Post subject:  FTA questions...

So, I am pretty sure I still have my Star Choice dish in the shed out back. I was contemplating getting an DVB-S card, and hooking it up, to see if I can get anything.

I was trying to make sense of the lyngsat pages, to see what is fta, and what I'd be able to pickup, but I'm not sure what band (ku I think) the LNB in my dish is, or if this is all I need.

I'm really new to this kind of stuff.

Any help/tips/advice would be great.

Thanks :)

For FTA, you need a linear LNB. I'm not sure about StarChoice, but Dish, BEV & Directv use a circular LNB. For Ku band, you will need at least a 30" dish, possibly greater depending on where you live. The FTA sats are lower powered than D*,E*,etc, hence the bigger dish...

Check out http://www.satelliteguys.us/free-air-fta-discussion/ for more information, great forum for FTA....
