I've only tried 'cat /dev/video0' and it won't open. I posted about my EEPROM error on ivtv-users but haven't had a reply except by myself.

I recompiled Monday Jan 14 with the latest tarball and got the same results. When I get some time to try again I may try a distro that some of the others are using just in case I left something important out of my kernel. (Although I used the same .config as on my main KnoppMyth box with an HD-3000, and that's working fine.) I might also try patching the driver and using the KnoppMyth kernel.

I have tried soft and hard resets. I don't see my particular EEPROM issues in others' dmesg listings, so maybe I'm doing something wrong:

tveeprom 1-0050: Huh, no eeprom present (err=-121)?
tveeprom 1-0050: Encountered bad packet header [3d]. Corrupt or not a
Hauppauge eeprom.

I thought the following messages were my firmware loading, but now I'm not so sure:

cx88/2: cx2388x MPEG-TS Driver Manager version 0.0.6 loaded
cx88/2: cx2388x dvb driver version 0.0.6 loaded
cx88/2: registering cx8802 driver, type: dvb access: shared

And I'm just now noticing they say cx88 and not cx18. I don't have any other capture cards in my test box, so I don't know what's going on here.

Anyway, from now on unless I hear from a developer about my problem my goal will be to try to emulate the environment of someone who got it working. At least one guy patched v4l for 2.6.18, and another used MythDora, so I'll probably aim to duplicate one or both of those scenarios and see if I can get anything out of my card.

Where did you put the firmware files? /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware is where I think they go.

More info including my lspci is on the list: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/users/37445

Yes, I used /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware for the firmware files.

Sorry I can't be of much help, though. I'm not savvy enough with linux to offer much advice. :( Maybe try posting your message on the devel list, instead of the users list?

As of April 6 the beta driver has "ATSC" support, and the mailing list has reports of users getting it to work with varying success.

Last I tried, I still had the "no eeprom" error, but there's some chatter about that in the dev list, too.

But I thought people would like to know that HD support for the HVR-1600 is coming along.

acipolone:

I have an HD5500 that I use to capture both HD (OTA ATSC) and SD (NTSC
from satellite box and OTA ATSC) content with.

I only have an SD TV though. Playing the ATSC HD content, or even the
ATSC SD looks much better than the NTSC from the sat box.

What I am saying is that OTA ATSC is worth looking into, even if you only
have an SD display.

That's awesome news. I've been wondering about support for this card for a long time. Just today it showed up on dealnews for very cheap. So I thought I would check here again.

I went ahead and ordered an HVR-1600 to setup a test box with. I just found out that I have digital cable, but have only been using analog. So if I can get this card to work then Ill be able to access the digital content too.

Has anyone got this card set up and stable under R5.5?

Could you post some simple detailed instructions on the set up? I've got a test box to play with.

Thanks.

You could try starting with my detailed notes for R5F27 and seeing if they work for R5.5.

Unfortunately that's all I can offer, I haven't found the time to upgrade yet. I kinda hate to tinker with a working setup but there are some features of Myth 0.21 that I'd like to use so I'll probably do it eventually. In the meantime if someone else has some success with the HVR-1600 under R5.5 please do let us know...

i might get brave with mine tonight, I am not sure. I have an hvr-1600 sitting in the box waiting for support to catch up fully and I am about to do an upgrade. It depends on how brave I get tonight on if I do both at the same time. If I do, I will post my results/ramblings.

I saw your post before but it looks like you are only doing analog? I only have interest in broadcast HD as SD is gone in 7 months.

I need some good details to follow though. Step by step.

I, too, would like to know if this card works in R5.5. I'm looking for a replacement to my pvr-350 that just gave up the ghost...

Finally getting around to moving to R5.5. Adding a new drive so I went with a clean install...

Turned out to be fairly easy to get the HVR-1600 to work. All I had to do for R5.5 is download and install the latest cx18 drivers, copy the firmware, and do the vmalloc=192M boot fix. For lirc I copied my old configs and they worked with both the remote and the blaster.

This is not in production use yet - still booting R5F27 from the old drive when I'm not working on R5.5 - so I can't speak to the reliability but at least the early results are encouraging...
