Hi,

I am trying to understand some of linux/myth functionality so I can optimise my myth box.
My box was configured using an LCD monitor using dvi. Everything works and shows are being recorded and playback is good.
I recently hooked up a Panasonic PT-AX200U and generated the following modeline for it. (using dvi to hdmi converter)
Modeline "1280x720@60" 74.30 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757
I also generated modelines for 1280x720@50 and 1080@50i and 60i.
I tried all of them and they all seem to work but I currently only have the first one active.
I moved form the US to the UK and therefore my DVD collection is NTSC and my recordings are digital @50(as I understand it)
My system works and I got I really nice sharp picture but I do have the following small issues:
1. During fast pans I can notice a bit of a hiccup (both recordings and dvd)
2. During some DVD previews I get tearing
3. the boot up sequence does not show up on the projector.
4. If the projector is not turned on myth will not find the display and I need to reboot it in order to recognize it.
5. the project claims that the source is 1080/60p no matter which modeline I use.

None of these are evident when I use the lcd monitor. (I didn't check the DVD playback on the lcd)

I am wondering if I should be setting up modelines for all supported resolutions?
How does linux decide which resolution to use?
Which will do a better job up/down scaling the image, myth/projector?
Can I force linux to start in a specific resolution even if a display is not hooked up?
How do I find out what resolution linux is using and can I change it on the fly in myth?

Cheers,

-e

wow.... it's quiet in here.

Because of another issue I decided to go with a clean install. Since most of my recordings are going to be at 50p I decided to go with that mod line.

The projector still reports a 1080/60p input but at least the display is sharp and play back is smooth.

Upscaling on DVDs is fantastic.

If anyone gets the time I would still appreciate the info on xorg.conf

Hi !

(sorry for my english, i'm french)
Can you help me ?
I have problems with my pt-ax200 and my laptop (Dell 640m). The max resolution with VGA is 1024x768 (chipset intel GMA945)

I can't have modeline with my laptop.
Can you give me the modeline 1280x720@60 and @50 using VGA ?

Thanks a lot !

I generated both these mode lines using the info in the manual and the modeline calculator. (so use at own risk)
http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl

Modeline "1280x720@50" 59.42 1280 1312 1536 1568 720 735 741 757
Modeline "1280x720@60" 74.30 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757

Both these modelines have been tested using dvi to hdmi cable.
I have not tried it with a vga cable as I don't have one long enough.
I am only using the 50mhz line now until I can find out how mythtv handles multiple resolutions.

Looking at the manual again looks like the vga input at that resolution has a lower refresh rate. I created the following modeline.
Warning Warning - I have not tried the modeline below use at own risk!!
Modeline "1280x720@60" 73.93 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757

Good luck,

-e

1 & 2: Might be a performance issue on either the video card or the CPU. You might try to enable xvmc. Also, make sure you are using a de-interlacer.

3: Possibly because the display doesn't support the resolution that is used (I think mine only worked with 800x600 and not 640x480 for some reason). If you are using bootspash, this can be changed. I believe it was one of the options when enabling bootspash with the add_bootsplash.sh (I think that's the name) script.

4: I had this problem once and it just went away. I'm not sure what I did. You might try IgnoreEDID (search for it) in the xorg.conf.

5: Just a guess here, but since I doubt the nvidia card is putting out interlaced, it could be that the TV is interpreting all the resolutions as 1080p. Maybe try something obviously not 1080p to see if the TV is lying or just rounding. Ex. 800x600.
