As reported by at least a couple other folks there is apparently a known problem playing back 1080i HD content recorded from CBS using XvMC. Some people have reported success with hardware configuration tweaks but the most reliable answer seems to be playing back without XvMC if at all possible.

To change the playback profile go to
Main menu -> Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Playback -> Screen 3/9 and select one that doesn't use XvMC. You may need to switch back before playing HD content from other networks.
