All my locals come out of Sioux Falls and I can't pick up KMSP on any of the OTA repeaters.
It seems weird to me that it is giving a message about bob deint since it is a 720p station and shouldn't need to be deinterlaced. Try mythfrontend -v playback and see if it gives more detail.
The logs would be in the same directory as the mythfrontend.log if they are still around but I think they get rolled every month or so.

I thought the same - is it trying to deinterlace a progressive video??
Is this a command to be typed on a command line (# mythfrontend -v playback) or should I search the mythfrontend.log for the word "playback"?
OK. I looked. It looks like the logs are only kept around for a week and then rotated out of existence.

Yes it is a command to type in the command line. Just close the existing mythfrontend and type mythfrontend -v playback into a terminal window and the log will be printed to the terminal window.

Britney To brfransen: I went to the mythtv computer, used the attached keyboard and exited the mythfrontend (quit Knoppmyth), got to the fluxbox desktop, right-clicked with the mouse and got an x-term, typed your command, got reported error.
To all: I just added some links to sample KMSP video clips in the first thread post. I'd like to see if you can see the behavior I'm seeing. You should be able to see that these do NOT play ok in VLC Player. I'm not sure if these can be imported into your myth boxes so you can use the internal mythtv player to test them?

That is weird. Do you get the same error with just mythfrontend in the terminal? How about mplayer from the same terminal?

bransen: Today, the "mythfrontend -v playback" command worked from an xterm window - Merry Christmas?
The command spit out a screen full of text, but I don't know how to copy it from the xterm window to somewhere else?? I can't simply select the text with a mouse and paste it somewhere.
I tried "mythfrontend -v playback > /home/eric/output.txt" and got "permission denied".
Everyone: I got a suggestion to run LinHES 6.03 as a live cd and mount the /myth partition so I could use the built-in mythtv player on the KMSP videos on my hard drive.
My machine is currently R5.5. Won't 6.03 be expecting a different database schema and thus mess up the R5.5 database on the harddrive? Maybe I should use the R5.5 cd as a live cd instead?
I'm not sure how to mount the hard drive with the live cd in control. Is there a screen menu choice for that, or do I have to get to a command line? If command line, what is the command I need to type? My myth partition is /dev/sda3.

The key to my suggestion for using the live CD is that it ignores the DB which is in /data/srv/mysql under the root partition (sda1) _not_ under /myth (sda3).
Treating the files as "videos" rather than "recordings" gives you a chance to try playing them back with the built-in player without actually upgrading. It does require a few configuration steps to mount the partition, select the player, and point it at the mounted directory, but you can always just reboot to get back to normal or try again.
(As a point of general information, the Live CD runs out of a "RAM disk" image backed by the CD, and doesn't use the HD other than maybe the swap partition. You should even be able to mount sda3 read only.)

I also noticed that some of the shows on ABC were giving me the problem. They were the Grinch Movies (both old and new) the Santa Clause Movies 2 and 3. Regular first run shows seem to record just fine. I'm wondering if the network is doing some weird time shrinking thing to the movies so that they can get one more commercial in.
I also found that playing the files in mplyayer from a command line works Code: mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv /myth/pretty/The\ Santa\ Clause\ 2\ -\ 2010-12-19\,\ 7-00\ PM\ -\ Untitled.mpg
I coppied those mplayer arguments from my myth video settings. When I try and play the videos from the "Watch Videos" section it plays back sutterey even with those settings.
Hope that Helps.

mattbatt, I wonder if this is a significant pattern - both ABC and FOX broadcast in the 720p verison of HDTV? The other OTA networks broadcast in 1080i.
My Default Video Player settings for the VIDEOS folder are:
Code: mplayer -fs -zoom -monitoraspect 16:9 -vf pp=lb -quiet -vo xv %s Using these settings, FOX programs play smoothly using mplayer. It's the internal mythtv player that stutters on my R5.5 Knoppmyth machine. What ouptut resolution do you have set in xorg.conf? I've got an nvidia 6150 display chip with 1920x1080 as my xorg output resolution to my Sony HDTV. Code: Modeline "SonyBravia-60p" 148.5 1920 2010 2050 2200 1080 1082 1088 1125
All these R5.5 settings worked fine with Fox recordings for a year and a half - until the summer 2010 change at Fox/KMSP.

Eric, you are on the right track but when you open the terminal you are logged in as the mythtv user (unless you changed users) and therefore don't have permissions to the eric home folder. Try: Code: mythfrontend -v playback > /home/mythtv/output.txt
