I'm planning my box, and have gotten stuck on choice of tuner card. I need to tune clear-QAM from my cable operator now, since there are very few OTA signals that reach me, even with a big antenna. I've tried the cable with a standalone (non-cable operator provided) QAM tuner, and it can display the channels I want, so I know they're there and (for now) unencrypted.
Should I get pcHDTV-3000 and twiddle my thumbs until the QAM support is enabled? Or should I get MyHD-120? Or does the Fusion card work fairly well?
The box is P4 3Ghz, 512MB, nVidia FX 5200, and I'll want my 1080i (for those OTA recordings I can snag). I plan to take the DVI out of the card and run it into my HD monitor.
Thanks for any advice,
Scott

The Air2PC is now QAM capable! The only 2 cards I know what work with Linux are the pcHDTV 3000 and Air2PC. Until I see other wise, avoid all others. There is one more, cannot think of the name at the moment, but it only works in for the Australian model.

got any links to the QAM support for the air2pc? Do the drivers currently exist and work? I hadn't even heard that it was going to have the capability. That's making the air2pc sound better and better.

Taylor posted that info on the developer's list recently. I'd send you a link, but unsure how to, so here's a snip from a mythtv users gossamer_threads: 30 Jan 2005:

The Air2PC is fully supported by current CVS. I also just yesterday made it
work with Unencrypted Digital Cable in the US. I have sent a driver patch off
to linux-dvb. The Air2PC driver looks like it will be included in the 2.6.11
kernel as well..

The Air2Lan is very expensive last I looked, and that makes it less of an option
I think than the Air2PC. I also would have to spend some serious time figuring
out how to interface it with Myth to have the same type of support as current
DVB (linuxtv drivers really) devices.

I just put my whole backend in my garage where all my cables come into the
house.

Take a look.. I thought it was a great idea at first as well..

Well, the users list, not the developer's list.
