After spending hours trying to find a correct modeline, I finally tried using the VGA output instead of DVI (which goes through a DVI -> HDMI cable), and it works.

The problem was that over HDMI it would only show it if we had the resolution at 800x600 or below. Once at 1024x768, I think. 1280x720p would just go blank.

I'm using a Panasonic AE-700 projector. I swear when I was having my other issues, I had it working at this resolution using the same modeline. Anything else I should check?

Same release of KnoppMyth as before? The later R5Ax series upgraded the nvidia drivers. However, I've only heard of new problems with 1080i with them, and have heard no complaints of 720p.

Yeah, same release. R5A15.1. I really seem to have way more issues than anyone else. I am writing a little guide for people who are also trying to set up HD Mythboxes based on all the help you guys have given me.

I would be happy if I could get 720p going.

Strangely enough my Toshiba 52HM84 says not for pc's okay fine.. but the thing shows up in windows and supports EDID 1.3..

Anyone got a good modeline for 720p?

My bigger problem really is the overscan.

I thought one of the big things with hdmi was the drm that wouldn't allow anything above 480p without special drm stuff which of course linux doesn't have cause you have to pay someone for it, plus noone who is paranoid will give opensource any drm type stuff.

This is an old thread now, but just for anyone searching the forums, the 720p modeline I'm using on my Panasonic AE-700U is:

Code:
Modeline "1280x720" 76.50 1280 1340 1692 1696 720 721 726 750 -hsync -vsync

I also put in
Code:
Option "IgnoreEDID"

in the monitor section, but that didn't seem to help much... so I commented out the loading of the DDC module higher up in the XF86Config-4 file. That seems to have done the trick.

As an aside, I'm using an ATI Radeon 7000 64mb TVO ... using the 'ati' driver that comes with X, and using the Monitor/VGA/RGB/15 pin (take your pick of what to call it) connection to the projector. Seems to work quite fine. The projector registers it in the 'Picture' submenu as "Wide720", which is the 1280x720 setting.
