For the past week I've been trying to get MythTV to work with my AE-700 projector via a DVI-HDMI cable, with limited luck.

Finally I tried hooking it up to a regular LCD TV with a plain DVI cable, and it worked. On a whim, I then unplugged the DVI cable and plugged in the DVI-HDMI cable while the box was still on, and lo and behold, 1280x720 on the AE-700 through the HDMI port. After a reboot it all went away, and I have to "jump start" it with the LCD TV.

There's got to be a better way. I am using the the important bits of XF86Config-4 as posted earlier by corey.

Hmm, check out the output in:
Code:
/var/log/XFree86.0.log

when connected to the LCD. Figure out which modeline is being used, and then comment all of the other ones in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

Try adding

Code:
Option   "IgnoreEDID"

to the "Monitor" section in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

This is an old thread now, but just for anyone searching the forums, the 720p modeline I'm using on my Panasonic AE-700U is:

Code:
Modeline "1280x720" 76.50 1280 1340 1692 1696 720 721 726 750 -hsync -vsync

I also put in
Code:
Option "IgnoreEDID"

in the monitor section, but that didn't seem to help much... so I commented out the loading of the DDC module higher up in the XF86Config-4 file. That seems to have done the trick.

As an aside, I'm using an ATI Radeon 7000 64mb TVO ... using the 'ati' driver that comes with X, and using the Monitor/VGA/RGB/15 pin (take your pick of what to call it) connection to the projector. Seems to work quite fine. The projector registers it in the 'Picture' submenu as "Wide720", which is the 1280x720 setting.
