Ok, I've tried everything.

Followed all these instructions, from re-installing with the card in, re-installing with the card OUT, being sure the PVR-250 works, then ADDing the HD-3000, switching the physical slots the cards are in, then repeating, then repeating again with R5A16...

Still no love.

But unde R5A16, the behavior is different. At least now I get visible errors (though I still have to ssh in and KILL to recover)---all terminals are filled with scrolling error messages!

The new behaviors are:

1) Setting up as a DVB card isn't an option... show as no card availabe (the card DOES show up during the boot sequence, however)
2) as soon as I try to watch, I get the same black sreen as before, but when I ALT_CTRL-F1 to a term, I see a scrolling infinity of an "IRQ overflow", saying it's trying to "STEALING A BUFFER", and "IRQ 1160 already allocated"... note that I have no option to assign IRQ's in the BIOS, it's set to automatic.... no idea how to change these otherwise.

So it seems an earlier post about IRQ's may have been on the mark.

But I have no idea where to begin.

I suspect that when that problem is resolve, the card will at least show up as an option in the card setup-->DVB card screen.

Advice and instructions are dearly needed!

Thanks all, for you patience in solving the puzzle.

For other folks that may want to add an HD3000 card to their existing R5A15 system without a big-hammer reinstall, my technique to get the DVB drivers loaded was simply to install a fresh copy of Knoppmyth on a different hard disk (after installing the HD3000), then copy /etc/modules over to the original hard disk. I also added in the "ivtv" & "lirc" lines since they were missing from the fresh-install /etc/modules file. My configuration is one PVR250, one PVR150, and one HD3000.

I have 2 disks in my system, but with an LVM setup. How would I do an install on a second disk without losing the big hunk of LVM data?

I never did get it to work, so I removed the card. It's now in a drawer. :? .

I figured that when R5 was finally "official", I'd do a clean install at that point and give it another go.

I did an auto upgrade with an LVM volume following the direction on the wiki. As far as I can tell the big difference between that and an install is just that it doesn't touch the /myth partition... That'd be the path I'd take...

Have you even said what kind of cards you have? I have a hd3000 and pvr250 and they work great together right out of the box. Have you checked to see if the cards are sharing an irq?

Xsecrets,
How do you do this?

Thanks!

sometimes your bios will have a screen that tells you, if not you can try
cat /proc/interrupts not the easiest thing to read, but should give you an idea. I'm sure there's a better way that one of the wiser unix guys will come up with.

Looks like there are two Conexant devices sharing irq 22. Funny thing is that I don't have a "Conexant Winfast TV2000 XP " in my system and since I don't see the HD-3000, I presume that's it.

Hmmm. Misdetection of hardware? That sounds suspicious to me. Is that the problem?

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

Yes. This is exactly what I encountered with mine as well. if you've got a PVR-[123]50 in the system that it doesn't see and which fails to get initialized as a result you can blame this same issue for that too. Cecil and others don't see it, so it's apparently motherboard or system dependant...

With each passing day, I am less and less a fan of the ECS 848P-A motherboard. First, it lost the keyboard (after seeing it during the install) when R5A16 first booted (needed a BIOS setting tweak), then it has the mysterious disappearing hdc DVD-+RW drives (2 NECs and a Plextor) that needed a BIOS flash to fix, and now it looks like more goofiness with the HD-3000. Grrr...

It seemed like a good idea at the time!

Andrew Lynch

PS, what did you do to get your system fixed?

I think there is a reference somewhere back up this thread to the posting with the details...

Try making this change:
Code:
root@black2:~# cat /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv
# alias char-major-81   videodev

Actually, you're seeing both the NTSC and HDTV tuners on the hd-3000 card. On Dragon, you see the same thing, and there's just one hd-3000 card in it. So two results for the same card. I think your bold lspci results are good.

I understood how it was recognizing the card, and more than one device in the system shows multiple identities, I even dug deeply enough into debugging the problem to figure out that it was due to the default initialization order and the order than lspci lists my cards (no matter how they're arranged in the slots) the SDTV/NTSC tuner gets priority and the HDTV/ATSC gets ignored as does my PVR-250 for a related reason. My fix was crude (forcing the ivtv module to load early) but effective. As I've said before a more elegant solution would involve reprioritizing the order of initialization in /etc/init.d/KnoppMyth-tv and possibly even making it externally configurable.
