Post subject:  Can't watch live tv

I've got lots of experience with MS-Windows (building system and programming), but I'm very green when in comes to Linux.

I've just put together a new PC for the sole purpose of an HD PVR (current Tivo Series 1 owner).

System hardware...
AMD 64 3200+
EPOX EP-9NPA+Ultra NF4 ULTRA RT motherboard
2 HD-3000 cards
MSI NX62000TC-TD64E Geforce 6200TC
40GB ATA-100 (having trouble getting my new 250GB SATA drive running with Knoppmyth)
1 GB ram

I was able to get it up and running (and watch live tv) with an old Hauppauge Win-TV card. But I can't watch live TV with the HD3000 cards. Right now I'm just trying to watch TV through my PC monitor (I know that I'll have to jump through more hoops when it comes time to hook it up to my TV).

It does scan and recognize all available local DTV channels.

Here are the setup instructions I've gone through.

1) Do an auto install of R5A16
2) during mythtv-setup General:
configure TV format for ASTC
configure Channel freq table for us-bcast
Time offset for XMLTV to Auto
3) configure HD3000 as DVB
4) connect to zap2it in Video Sources section
5) Input connects: set DVB:0 DVBInput -> zap2it
6) Channel Editor, scan for ASTC channels (8 found)
7) exit mythtv-setup, wait for mythfilldatabase
8) run DVB_fixer.sh
9) exit X and install nvidia drivers "install-nvidia-7174-debian.sh"

restart mythtv frontend

I'm assuming that I should be able to watch "something" live (I could with the old analog tuner). But I get a black screen that eventually times-out and returns to the main frontend window.

Does anyone have any idea why I can't watch live TV?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It has something to do with the channel numbers if you search this hdtv section you will find some discussion about it.

Did you enter a starting channel in myth-setup?

For your Capture Card?

Do your channels have the underscore in it?

I believe this may be an issue with the frontend...
I too am having the same issue...

Can you record and view that?

Use mythweb... {if don't know about this yet sorry if you do}
Either on the same machine or better from another computer

In a internet brower go to:
http://IPOFYOURMYTHBOX/ <--- Or name if you can resolv it on your network

You should see this title

KnoppMyth R5

Then click on the MythWeb link

This is the interface to setup recordings and such...
I love this interface... It rocks..

Then just pick one of the HD channels {mine have the underscore} and record it..

Select the menu 'backend status'
It should show that one of your encoders is recording.

Just after I made my initial post I discovered the "My pcHDTV works just fine for recordings. Not so in Live-tv" thread. Following some advice there, I tried recording a program and then watching it. After that I was able to watch live tv.

My channels do have an '_'. Should I set my starting channel to "3_1" if 3.1 is my first channel ("3_1" is how it's listed in the guide)?

I do have some 'slow motion' playback issues. I'm not sure if that's related to my older hard drive or not. Per the other thread I did verify the DMA and IO were enabled. I do want to ditch the older (slightly noisy) drive for my new Seagate 250GB sata. Still no luck getting it up and running with Knoppmyth. I've had luck getting it running in fedora core 3, but I"m waiting for the new Kernel that has DVB support (last time I checked they were at 2.6.120-rc6, should be any day now).

My other issue is audio through my coax spdif connector, but I haven't spent any time on that yet. Just trying to get a picture.

What use to happen in versions prior... Was that the adding a channel was necessary, I believe its the same for R5A16. I would think that 3_1
should work... It did not for me tho...

I am curious if you enabled Xvmc and see how that looks...

Not sure if Xvmc is compatible with AMD tho... worth a try anyway...
If that works it will solve your Slo-mo problem.

Your Nvidia 6200 must be real new and better then my FX5200...
I have a P4 3Ghz and it plays great on my system... hooked
to my 55" TV....

It should be fine with the 6200.

BTW: I have a seagate 300 GB SATA works great in Knoppmyth...
If you can follow the docs... You won't have any problems with
it...

http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/mirrors/mysettopbox.tv/

Take a look at the Manual Install..

Or Do a google for KnoppMyth and Sata...
