Hi, nVidia graphics card owners! The following is a retooled version of what I posted on the nvnews.net forum about problems with nVidia graphics cards and 1080i. I've been in contact with nVidia's Linux support over email about the infamous split-screen bug (c.f. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5666&highlight=split+screen and http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4816&highlight=split+screen and http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4423&highlight=split+screen). They are claiming that nobody has ever reported it to them before. Knowing that the bug had certainly been discussed on the nvnews.net forum before (c.f. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49315 and http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49870), I replied with links to the relevant threads, and I got no reply. This is obviously bad service, but there's still a way to address it without abandoning the time, effort, and money already invested in your cards. Apparently, they are very particular about how they receive their bug reports. They want to see an nvidia-bug-report.log from immediately after the problem occurs. For details, see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678. Rather than just post it here, send it to the support tech I've been in touch with, Lonni J Friedman: lfriedman@nvidia.com If everyone who experienced the problem does this, they won't be able to say they don't know about it anymore. Just so we can get a sense of how many people report the bug, please post in this thread if you send them your bug report log. Thanks! |

Well I have a differnet Nvidia problem. But Nvidia told me to do the same thing. I am working from a r5a22 install. And the script (nvidia-bug-report.sh) is not present. NVidia docs say it should be intsalled right along with the driver. Anybody else have this issue? |

I reported the bug a loooong time ago, in their support forum (of course) where they apparently don't accept any reports of their drivers not working. The bad news is, to recreate this report, I need to install the non-working drivers over my working set (6629) and hope I get the stupid script to report the bug. It's obnoxiously easy to duplicate this problem. Just try to run a display at 1080i with any of their "new" drivers. Has anyone ever gotten their card to WORK at 1080i (after 6629, that is)? |

Liv2Cod, What version are the drivers you are installing to get the bug report script? |

I have not looked for the bug script. Your post is the first I have seen about it. Sigh. I guess I'll have to go through the pain of installing a crap version of the driver just to *prove* it doesn't work. |

Sorry, misunderstood your post. If it helps I searched my whole harddrive after installing r5a22. It's not there and it looks like r5a22 intsalls 7174. .....Now back to the other forum........... |

well even if the install script doesn't install it you should be able to extract it from the install package that should be in /usr/src |
