I recently got an HD-2000 card that I would like to use in my Myth backend. I had previously had a PC250 based backed setup and figured I needed to upgrade to HDTV. Unfortunately I couldn’t get them to work together so I reinstalled R5A16 with just the HD-2000 card installed to try to make it a “simple” install. Although I have had success in the past getting Knoppmyth working on a PVR-250 with a separate Xebian front end and another separate Fedora frontend, I have had no luck at all with this HD-2000 card. So far I can’t even know for sure if it “works”

From reading threads I have been able to identify some of the info that is useful, even if I personally may not know how to interpret it properly. Here is some of the data I have gathered:

lspci output:

0000:02:04.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)
0000:02:04.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)

So, afaik, the card isn’t just “dead”

dmesg output for bttv:

bttv: driver version 0.9.15 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
bttv: Bt8xx card found (0).
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:04.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
bttv0: Bt878 (rev 17) at 0000:02:04.0, irq: 16, latency: 32, mmio: 0xf4000000
bttv0: subsystem: 70ff:2000 (UNKNOWN)
please mail id, board name and the correct card= insmod option to kraxel@bytesex.org
bttv0: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected]
bttv0: gpio: en=00000000, out=00000000 in=0000007f [init]
bttv0: using tuner=-1
bttv0: i2c: checking for MSP34xx @ 0x80... not found
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA9875 @ 0xb0... not found
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA7432 @ 0x8a... not found
bttv0: i2c: checking for TDA9887 @ 0x86... not found
bttv0: registered device video0
bttv0: registered device vbi0

Now, this seems odd because all of the other threads I have been able to find show the card as a HD-2000 (card=112). Apparently the auto-recognition on mine fails. I tried to but an “options bttv card=0” in my modules.config file, but that didn’t seem to make a change in my dmesg output. I’ve also seen where people recommend getting rid of or “moving” the bttv load line and using DVB instead. Could someone explain bttv vs DVB and of course, any advice you could give for me on how to resolve this would be great. Also, how can I test the card to make sure it’s working, and how do I change what /dev device it’s being pointed to? If you couldn’t tell, I’m somewhat of a linux noob here so... any help would be great.

The bttv modules see the 2000, but you shouldn't set up this as a bttv card. You should set this card up as DVB.

I've tried that, but whenever I go into setup (after shutting down the backend), it doesn't see the card on any of the adapters.

This is the same problem I had with R5A16, its easy to fix by fiddling with the modules order a bit. See my Tier 2 entry for the AMD 64 based box.
