Anyone know of a capture card that will do component/rgbhv in?

No such beast. This is something that simply isn't available except as a piece of professional video editing equipment, thus the $$$ price.

From my understanding, the real problem isn't the analog input -- although capturing video waveforms with an A/D converter is no small feat. The real bear is transforming that UNCOMPRESSED video stream into an MPEG2 compressed video output in real time. Think of a PVR-250, but with orders of magnitude more computer power to perform the MPEG conversion.

These things don't live on a chip today -- they live in their own box in a rack at the TV station.

I have been looking at this one:-

http://www.pluggedin.tv/sweetspot/

It seems to do what you want, and at a price of £149uk plus shipping via FedEx or UPS.

Are there linux drivers? Is it supported by MythTv? If so, I'm in!

<EDIT>
HMMM.... Maybe not so much...

Check this thread:

might be entertaining to play with, but the bt878 basis makes it less than ideal...

Yeah, it's not high-definition. I don't care about component inputs for standard def. signals. Plus, it doesn't output MPEG2. It streams out raw video only, leaving the compression to your computer.
