Post subject:  Problems getting HDVT with firewire & Motorola 6412 PVR

I am trying to get HDTV recording working with a firewire connection to the Motorola 6412 PVR box -- so far, no luck. I am using Knoppmyth R5A16 install and I am getting the following error on the logs:

Quote:
2006-01-19 21:20:11.277 Firewire: Initializing Port: 0, Node: 1, Speed: 100Mbps
2006-01-19 21:20:11.280 Firewire: Creating P2P Connection with Node: 1
2006-01-19 21:20:11.362 Firewire: Changing Speed 200Mbps -> 100Mbps
2006-01-19 21:20:26.362 Firewire: No Input in 15 seconds [P:0 N:1] (select)
2006-01-19 21:20:26.397 Couldn't read data from the capture card in 15 seconds. Stopping.
2006-01-19 21:20:26.429 Changing from WatchingLiveTV to None
2006-01-19 21:20:26.431 Firewire: releasing iec61883_mpeg2 object
2006-01-19 21:20:26.432 Firewire: releasing raw1394 handle

Update: The output of plugreport is
Quote:
root@mythtv:/var/log/mythtv# plugreport
Host Adapter 0
==============

Node 0 GUID 0x005042e00080130f
------------------------------
libiec61883 error: error reading oMPR
libiec61883 error: error reading iMPR

Node 1 GUID 0x00159afffe1ca873
------------------------------
oMPR n_plugs=1, data_rate=2, bcast_channel=63
oPCR[0] online=1, bcast_connection=0, n_p2p_connections=0
channel=0, data_rate=2, overhead_id=0, payload=376
iMPR n_plugs=0, data_rate=2

I set it up as Port=0, node=1 based on results from running "plugreport". If I dileberately change the node to the wrong node number, the error changes quite a bit. My assessment is that I am getting through to the bo for some level of communcation, but perhaps not consistantly? I've tried both "p2p" and "broadcast" communcation on the firewire channel -- doesn't solve the problem the way it seemed to for some others.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried both other and moto6200?

X, returned the 6412, as I don't really like it as a PVR anyway and exchanged it for a 6200. Same problem.

Would you mind running "plugreport" on your machine and posting the result? (I know from your other posts that you are running this config.)

When I try to run "6200ch", it tells me there isn't a 6200 box connected.

It's working! I made two changes:

1. Winds up I needed comcast to activate the box to get the digital channels to work.

2. I changed the "Firewire connection type" to "Broadcast".

It now appears to be working very consistantly, and I am able to record both hidef and non-hidef channels. This is very cool!
