Post subject:  Playback problems with 1280x720 recording

I am running R5A30.2 on a P4-2.4GHZ with an FX5200 video card. My tuner is a Motorola DCT-6200 connected via firewire. I am successfully using version 6629 of the nvidia driver with my 1080i modeline. The table below outlines the results I get:
Code:
             Libmpeg2                         xvmc-on

1080i        90% CPU utilization (1)          60% CPU utilization (1)
recording    Excellent video quality          Excellent video quality

720 (2)      80% CPU utilization (1)          50% CPU utilization (1)
recording    Excellent video quality          Jerky video playback

480i         25% CPU utilization (1)          20% CPU utilization (1)
Recording    Acceptable video quality         Acceptable video quality

Footnotes:

1.   Measurements taken while recording a std-def show in the background from the DCT-6200 at 6GB/hour.
2.   One of the hidef channels in my area transmits in 720p; the rest transmit in 1080i.

I would like to run with xvmc turned on at all times so that I have spare cycles for people coming in via mythweb, but as shown in the table, 720 material doesn’t play back properly under xvmc when the output device is 1080i. So here are my questions:

1. Is there something I can tweak to resolve the “jerky video” problem with 720p source material under XVMC?
2. If not, is there some way I can automatically reconfigure the front-end to use libmpeg2 for 720p material and xvmc for 1080i material?

FYI, I tried versions 7174, 8174 and 8178 of the nvidia driver, but they all had the same two problems: Both produced a blank screen when used with my 1080i modeline; when used with my 720p modeline, my CPU would max out and video playback was jerky.

Any help would be appreciated -- thanks!

Marc
