Hi all,
just a note to say that I have now running my MythTv box with an Avermedia 771 DVB card in Australia.
Early days yet, but basically I wanted to say that I am running a backend on a PIII 500 machine and everything is great.
I can watch liveTV and record the program running mythtv front and backend on the PIII 500 and only use 75% CPU time.
When I connect to this backend with another machine frontend (PIII 733) the backend uses only <5% CPU when the remote maching is watching a recorded stream or liveTV.
The most amazing thing is that beleive it or not I NEARLY have HD working on the backend/frontend machine. I have not tried it on the separated frontend machine yet... will tonight... but there is only a very slight pause in playback every few seconds on HD onthe backend machine.
Sorry if that last sentence was horribly structured.. I am quite excited about this achievement.
More so, basically I did nothing to push the envelope, pretty much a stndard install.
I was only testing on a bit or surplus hardware before i bought a grunty machine to handle the task, but now i am not sure that i will bother buying anything else.
cheers
Andrew

That is pretty amazing, Andrew.
I have got perfect DVB playback working on a PIII 500, but due to its broken bus implementation (Compaq DeskPro) have never gotten DVB capture and playback to work.
Good to know what is possible!

yeah it is all good from where i sit.
Did more testing last night with SD streams and the backend doesnt get above 5% - 6% when using a separate frontend.
COnsidering the Aver 771's replacement, I am going to try and see if i can get a few of them at runout old stock prices and see if i can push the limits
Andrew

Hi andrew_bg,
Interesting.
I've just spent the whole morning trying to get knopmyth R5a16 installed and running ( autoinstall) with an Averemedia 771, but the install keeps hanging at the finish of the "Video Sources" section - trying to scan for the channel info I guess.
Don't know if its my LAN, Modem/Router or the site thats the problem but hangs at 50%.
Could you possibly post your /.knofig file for me to compare with mine?
I'm in Sydney.
Thanks
Bill

Just found out from another post that the problem is the d1.com.au site - full of 404 errors - its the site that tv_brab_au uses.
Would still like to see your /.knofig.

Bill, you do know that you have to go to the terminal window and type some stuff in, right?
When mythtv-setup is stuck at 50%, type Alt-Tab to get to the xterm that started up mythtv-setup, and you will see that the script is asking some questions about City, TVguide type, et c. Type the answers, and when it is finished Alt-Tab back to the mythtv-setup program.

Hi Nigel,
Thanks. I'd already found that info in another post ( your entry in" Problem in Configure TV channel in Australia????") and have been trying it this afternoon - several times.
I tried the d1.com.au site in my browser and most of its pages gave error messages.
Knopmyth setup got all of the TV channels but no frequencies , so I guess that I'll put them in manually. ( EDIT ( Doh! - just found info in another post - no frequencies included or needed apparently)
What card do you choose in the setup for the Aver dvb-t 771- the pvr250/350 or rhe default?
Will try again later tonight or early tomorrow - maybe the d1.com.au site will work.
Here is the relevant part of my knopmyth dmesg output in case it helps:-
Linux video capture interface: v1.00
bttv: driver version 0.9.15 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture

While we're on the topic, I have a perfectly working PVR, except the keymap I have is very poor. Most of the buttons don't work, and the few that do (like up and down) are mostly incorrect.
For those that are trying to get the remote to work still:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-30 ... a+771.html
I'm going to play around with the keymapping tonight.
