First off all, sry for my bad English, i am from austria :-)

My HTPC Hardware:
Pentium 3 1000 mhz
Chaintech Mainboard
Geforce 2 MX
Hauppauge WINTV PCI-FM(The old one with BT878 Chip)

I have big Problems with my mythtv installation!!
I made all configurations for mythtv but i cannot scan channels.
the Scan for Channels button greyed out and i dont know how i can get the channels list.
my card works fine because in the phone software, i have a snowy picture(only the inidicator that the card is functionaly)
i have added a V4L Standart Card in the capture card menu
i have added a video source named "1" with the "germany (tvtoday) grabber and "europe west" channel list
i have associated the television input connection to "1"
if i use the xterm for "Mythfilldatabase --manual" i have messages like Unexpected end of file and failed to fetch some program info
"scantv" finds some channels and completes it but the channels are not in mythtv and xawtv.

Please Help me!!!!

PS: i searched the forum for about 4 hours but i dont find anything that helps me

Just forget about the channel scan.

Maybe the tv_grab_au (is this for Australia or Austria???) has to be updated. But first of all you have to run tv_grab_au from a XTERM as user. The output may be something like 'you first have to run tv_grab_au --configure'. This will give you the opportunity to choose the channels you actually want to have grabbed from the internet site containing the TV info.

You also can google for 'tv_grab_au', maybe the grabber needs an update.

Please post the result of running 'tv_grab_au' in a XTERM.

The bottomline is that you have to input the channel frequencies by hand, this should be not more than 15 minutes work as you might get the channel chart (and frequencies) from the provider.

Your English is not that bad :)

PS: as your installation is OK (you are pretty far ...) this might be the wrong forum....occasionally posts disappear from this forum, please repost then after reading the stickies...

sry but i dont know how i can copy and paste :-)
And my only Webbrowser in Knoppmyth is mythweb.
I write this from my Main Computer in Windows.
i have made tv_grab_de --configure(au is australia) and it adds many channels.
if i type in tv_grab_de following error occurs:

Cant call method "look_down" on an undefined value at /usr/bin/tv_grab_de line 62

i have now one channel because i have added a channel manually with the frequency E9 in the channel editor
But i dont know where i can get a list of channel frequencies.
I have now new Problems:
If i want to launch the Program guide, mythtv ends itself.
My Computer is too slow for timeshifting and i dont know how i can turn off timeshift. if i change the resolution to 320x240, the speed is ok but it is an terrible quality.
i have no Sound in tv but dvd playing has sound and if i connect my speaker directly to the tv card i have sound too.

i download R5A30 at the moment and install it complety new(now i have R5A26).
I Hope this is not so buggy.

About timeshift: you could use another linux tv application, that works with your card. TVTime e.g. http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/cards.html or xawtv. There are many more for non-MPEG encoding cards. For recordings and play back your could use MythTV. I understood that it is easy to change the menu and associating 'Watch TV" with another application (I assume :?: )

I think that the line out of your tv card has to be connected to the line in of the sound card. Those tv cards work this way and have no sound via the PCI.

There are posts in this forum dealing with tv_grab_de, it has to be updated but its a long time ago that I have read this post...

I think that installing R5A30 won't get you any further...
R5A26 is not buggy, just a few things to tweak

Editing the main menu:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=KnoppmythMenu
or http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6898&highlight=editing+xml+files+menu

Maybe you should have a closer look at your sound card?

A Google for Austria TV channels revealed:

http://www.obs.coe.int/db/persky/at.html
and
http://www.rtr.at

They may list channel numbers?
