How does DVD Rip work? Is there anything that needs to be specially configured?

Basically, when I insert a DVD and try to rip it, I get the No Jobs screen. As far as I can tell, mtd is running correctly.

I changed my DVD and VCD devices to /dev/cdrom. I noticed that when I insert media, it is automaticaly mounted as /cdrom due to an entry in /etc/fstab. I can watch movies ok and I can play/rip cdroms.

I already looked at /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples.

Any ideas what the No Jobs error means?

Does it say No Jobs running "press any num pad key to continue" or something close to that?

you might try linking /dev/dvd to /dev/cdrom.
Also make sure that permissions are correct and the a valid dir exists.

The best way to debug this is to kill mtd, and then run mtd from an xterm. That way you can see the messages.

I figured it out... Running "mtd -d" didn't work. Running "mtd &" worked.

Based on the logging that was produced, running mtd -d didn't allow the process to monitor the DVD. Mtd simply didn't detect when a DVD was inserted.

What's the significance of -d ?
