Ok not only am i new to the mythtv world but i am also new to linux. This is why i am choosing knoppmyth and i was also told that later on after learning some more basics of linux that i should switch to fedora 4. so basically im looking into building a powerfull but cheap mythbox. here is what i have and what i am looking to purchase. any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

So this is my proposed setup. it seems a reasonable price (around 350). please any suggestions on changings things, cheaper prices, or any thing i can get rid of or add would be greaty apreciated. is celeron d a decent route to go? hows the quality of a hd-3000 on a tv? i have a 27 inch that i iwill be using it on for the most part. just some other question i know i can search for but if some one doesnt mind answering can my hd-3000 pick up digital cable channels? i have cox cable in phoenix az we pay for hbo and do have a digital cable box if the card cant tune digital channels can i hook up the digital box to it kinda like a vcr to a tv? last quesition can any one recommend a remote? i was thinking if no remote i would settle for cheap wireless keybored

seems like a good setup the only thing i would change is the Raedeon 7500 128mb sdram w/ tvout.. Knoppmyth only supports Nvidia cards out of the box.. so anything else will have you compiling and mod probing to your hearts content. go spend the 35 dollars on a mx4000 nvidia card with svideo out.

one side note.. having spent many hours on fedora.. and a few mythboxs i can tell you fedora holds NOOOOO advantages for mythtv even with linux experience.. the one exception is if you plan on using it as a workstation/mythbox. knoppmyth is by far the way to go for a dedicated mythbox.

it will work..but i would get an AMD 3000 + or faster over a Intel Celery.



its a SWEET card i own 6 of them and 1 air2pc. you dont use the hd3000 for TV out.. you use your nvidia card your getting =)



NO.. no card can except for cable cards.. which will never be availble for linux thanks to DRM happy politicians. Digital cable by and large is encrypted. you can ask them for their encryptions keys and report back!



yes..but if your going that route the HD3000 is not a sweet card
the HD3000 is for HD content (mainly over the air.. though it can do QAM)
if your capturing using svideo Get a PVR150 or pvr250. many new cable boxes do firewire output which _SOME_ people have gotten working. then you wouldnt even need a capture card!!! how sweet is that!

its USB, simple, cheap, and works right out of the box with knoppmyth.. though im sure there are more expensive and nicer remotes.



The BTC 9019URF is VERY NICE 44$ but is RF with an intergrated mouse!!
i love mine!! i doubt there is a nicer one for the money!

the reason i went away from amd is because i figured they run a little hotter which equal more fans wich equal more noise. dont get me wrong my main comp is amd 64 3700 im definitely happy with it

i got a directv dish in my backyard from previous house owner would that pickup any signal lol? we have cable so we dont use it or maybe its primestar. i will have to look at it in the day light tommorow.

if i were to go amd what do you think about sempron?

Why would you switch to Fedora? If you want a box to function has a PVR, there is no better or easier way than KnoppMyth (IMHO). If you search the forum, you see folks that have switch from Fedora to KnoppMyth.

I vote that you go with Fedora. Then you will get a real appreciation of all the work cesman puts in.

Been there, done that, have the thin spots on my scalp from tearing my hair out ... NOT RECOMMENDED.
