I just installed knoppmyth on my computer, since I've got a computer that has a motherboard/tuner conflict when running in windows, and I felt like watching tv on it today.

When I run mythtv though, I get the following error:

Could not connect to the master backend serve- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?

I'm not sure what the problem is, I've played with it for about an hour with no response. I install knoppmyth with the auto install, using defaults whereever possible.

Could someone tell me how to fix this (and also, if you know of the location of one, where I could find a default brooktree 878 driver for windows so I can dual boot and still watch tv, I've spent hours and hours looking for one of those, because the hauppage wintv doesn't work with a via chipset, but the brooktree 878 linux gives it does)

Thank you all in advance for your help

You need to tell us your system details. Knoppmyth does not love VIA chipsets either. Some VIA based mobo's work some don't. Tell us about your system as detailed as possible.

Somthing like "abit motherboard." doesn't help. Something like "abit model X motherboard with VIA chipset Y and running CPU Z . . ." does help.

How did you "run mythtv?" It should automatically run once the install is complete. And it should automatically run everytime you turn on the computer. If it never ran automatically when the install compleated then you have an instliation issue.

But it sounds to me (based on the little info you provided) like you may have broken it after the install.

I guessed as much myself, about it breaking on me, however, I can't figure out how to re-install. I tried to boot from CD again, to get it to just re-install, but intead it just loads make into knoppmyth.

I know that the first time it ran, the installation script (or whatever that is) ran, and prompted me for a password. I put in the wrong password, since I didn't relize it was asking for the Su password. It then gave me a regular terminal prompt, so I wasn't quite sure what to do, I closed it, and found out how to run mythtv manually. I got that error message. Hoping that it was some installation thing that needed to finish, I restarted the computer. This time, I relized it wanted the SU password, so it went through the configuration thing. I think I did mess up there, but I don't know how to restart it, or the install.

About the hardware, its a ECS PT800CE-A (1.0) Socket 478 VIA PT800CE ATX Intel Motherboard with a Intel Celeron D 310 Prescott 533MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor Model BX80546RE2130C. I know that I should be able to run knoppmyth, because I was able to watch tv on the exact same system with whatever is packaged with fedora.

Okay so you actually never finished the install process.

Sounds like you need to change the boot order in your motherboard's setup. Try pressing the [delete] key durring the boot process to access the setup program. After you change the cd-rom as the first boot device and the harddrive as the second boot device, you should be able to reinstall knoppmyth.

If you enter the wrong password after the reboot during the install just reboot the system agian and enter the correct password.
