I think the deal is this: If the software screws up the PS conversion of your TS recording, you're left with bupkiss. If the TS is captured instead, at least you have a shot at reprocessing it some other way. (Sure, like we HAVE any tools to process TS streams.)

Everyone on the mail list is all gaga over this "Project-X" thing to manipulate the TS streams, but it's a huge project written in Java. GUI based, just to add insult to injury. I'm just not eager to navigate all those new dependencies just to see where THIS one fails.

Actually, it seems TS will just be the default. http://cvs.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/222

yeah still looks like they are planning on ripping it out sometime after 0.19 hope the do some serious work on it. When I was using it TS would skip alot and then on about the third or fourth skip you lost all sound for the rest of the recording. however ps worked just fine with far fewer skips and never lost sound.

also the mythtv player does not like TS very much, that's what I get over firewire, and rewind ff during livetv is all kinds of f@$%d up.

What do you mean by this? I have noticed that occasionally when I watch an in-progress recording (or live tv) and I skip forward at the add break it hangs for several seconds. Is that what you are takong about (This is watching standard def).

no on the firewire connection using ts when I watch live tv if I pause it's ok, however if I try to rw or ff then it jumps back several minutes and you can never forward back up to where you were. and the more you try the worse it gets, basically dumping you back to the beginning. If you use the sticky keys so it actually ff/rw instead of 30sec jump it mostly works, but I like the jump.

That sounds like it's not populating the recordedmarkup table correctly. I think my problem is more a file system thing. Its not that annoying so I have never bothered to look into it.

maybe you should think about recording your shows as ps instead of ts. I found I got better results that way anyways.

That does suck.... Using PS is the only way I can watch ABC with it poop'n the bed. Nothing like desperate wives in HD! ;)
Well thats all very interesting, I had a look at my settings and the "Record in TS instead of PS" checkbox was not ticked, so I assume I was recording in PS already. I checked the box to switch to TS to see what would happen and lo and behold, I could record HD without corruption (1440x1080i which is what passes for 1080i in Australia). So my experience is the total opposite to both of yours.

However, I then made a standard def recording and tried to use nuv2disc and it did not recognise the recording as a valid MPEG2 with DVD resolution so it didn't allow it to be selected for creating a DVD. So it seems recording TS means nuv2disc will not work :?

I manually ran replex on it and it converted the TS recording to a PS recording suitable for burning to DVD. The problem is I cant find a tool that will recognise the format of the TS recording in order to allow nuv2disc to check it is a DVD compatible recording. :(

The upshot is, I think I want to leave my settings to record in PS (I dont really have any use for high def), but I am beginning to understand Liv2Cod's frustration. I'm also a bit worried about myth making TS the only way to record (but I guess the nuv2disc problems are not insurmountable).
