Hey guys, Ive recently become intrested in HTPC's, and have decided i would like to start experimenting and try and get MythTV up and running. I've never used Linux before, so I am certain I will learn a lot. I am a student and can't afford to make a computer up specifically for this project. I do however have an old system that i can use, its specs follow: - AMD Duron 1.2GHz - 256MB RAM - GIGABYTE MOBO (GA-7VRX) - Radeon 9000PRO 64MB - 60GB HDD - Windows XP Pro currently installed (other than the the HDD is empty) I know it's not the best, but I only really want to use MythTV for music, DVD's and video files (movies, tv shows ect). So basically my question is, what are your recommendations for me to get started, download a compiled package? From my readings this afternoon i have confused myself as to what Distribution on Linux i need, the differences between them, ect.... Thanks Andy |

Hi, I suggest KnoppMyth R5C7. The hardware you have should work, video may need some extra care. If you want to retain your windows useage it only takes a couple of extra steps. If you would like to play with linux a little first, download and make a couple live cd's. damnsmalllinux.org isvery cool and a handy tool, 50 meg foot print has loot of power! Also a good distro to have in the quiver is Ubuntu, any of the variations are excelent (my opinion) Mike |
