Post subject: | Audio out from sound card muted |
i tested my audio out from my soundcard a few weeks ago with a headset, it worked fine. I'm using a pvr-350 so i have been using the defult audio out with it. I just bought the correct audio out cables so i can use my soundcard instead, however it seems to be muted now....i have no idea how to unmute it or even if it may have broke. |

I don't use a pvr-350, but my guess is that as you've correctly (Check this tho) wired it up to the sound card you'll need to use alsamixer to unmute the soundcard, especially if you added it after initial install. To do this go to root (Alt-F2) and type 'alsamixer'. Left and right arrow move you around, up and down volume. For a muted channel, 'M' will unmute it. |

Hi, Adding to mr. tophee's comments, you should be going from line out of dongle cable red/white to line in of sound card. You will need to un(m)ute the line in and set to ~90. Also in the setup/utilities under one of the general tabs make the master the controller instead of pcm. Mike |

Hi, You are correct, from sound 1/8"" mini stereo to tv rca l & r. To get to the sound card it is from 350 dongle cable rca l & r to 1/8" mini stereo into sound line connector. Setting the level control in the setup/utilities allows you to control the volume via your normal F10/F11 (and of course remote) Mike |

HI, May not have a driver for it any more, but try it. run as root alsaconfig and have it look for isa cards. May take a few moments. CompUSA has a ~$24 pci card that works well. After you get a driver, run alsamixer Mike |

Hi, Sorry, I did not specify that alsaconf must be run as root. Usually if you have alasmixer then it is ok. I have seen exceptions with the i8x0 audio. Un(m)ute everything, push the levels to ~90 and there should be audio going through. Mike |

Hi, One other thing you may try, as root, modprobe snd-<fill in name of card driver here> example modprobe snd-cs4236 (I use this on my "older" Dell) That is about the last of my ideas Mike |
