OK, so I did a big boo-boo. I did something to Mysql the other night and it took out the mythconverg database. I was left to restore my database from an old backup that was about 1 month old. (Yes, I know... I should've ran a backup every night. I now am!)

The problem I now have is that there are a ton of videos (.nuv) which were recorded between my last backup and my restore date, that are sitting in the /video directory but have no reference in mythtv or the database. I can download them to my PC and watch them (from a samba share), but that's kind of annoying. I'd really like to re-enter these into the database - even if it means doing it manually.

Does anyone know of a way to manually enter these videos back into mythtv so that I can watch them again in my frontend as well as update my database so I'm not re-recording the same episodes?

Yep, you only go through that once, then create a nightly backup routine! :)

Try http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6127&highlight=update+database for getting your DB back into shape (I've not tried it myself, but it appears others have been successful with it).

Hi,
I don't know if you can rebuild the db however to just save the recordings what I have done is simply mv them into the /myth/video and rename in the process. Also grab the the thumb image for the cover. That is if the /myth/pretty is intack so you can see the link.
Example: (these are all one full line, watch for wrapping)
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv mythtv 32 Dec 19 21:17 The Year Without a Santa Claus - 2006-12-11, 9-00 PM.mpg -> /myth/tv/2010_20061211210000.nuv

and the matching thumb would be:

/myth/tv/2010_20061211210000.nuv.png

so you could move or copy:
cp /myth/tv/2010_20061211210000.nuv.png /myth/video/.covers/The_Year_Without_a_Santa_Claus.png
and the actual video:
cp /myth/tv/2010_20061211210000.nuv /myth/video/The_Year_Without_a_Santa_Claus.mpg

If the contents of /myth/pretty is hosed then you will have to figure out the names by the content after you save them. Only thing that would change is the final name.

Then you could play them as regular videos. I do something simular when I want to save a show on a different machine by using rsync

R5C7 saves the files as mpg extensions but this still applies.
There may be better ways, but it does work. You will have to scan for videos when done.

Thanks, I'm going to get my videos organized and then try that. You know what would really help though is if I had an online tv-guide database that I could run a query against to see what shows played at what times prior to today. Since the videos are all timestamped I could just pull that up and there would be my information! Would anyone know of a website that displays tv guide listings for the previous 4 weeks?

There is a script that allows you to your db. I think it is mythrebuilddb.pl or something like that. I'd suggest taking a look at the MythTV archives.
