'Ya know, I've been a member here since early to mid year of '06, and I feel at times as though I don't know a thing !
Back when I first started with KnoppMyth [I think it was RC7 ?] everything seemed to work very good, but I never could get good pictures from the PVR-500. Now, with the D & E versions out, I seem to get much better pictures, but I cannot get my remote to work with 5E..; works fine w/5D.
I looked at the wiki and went through the steps, and I keep getting an error when the lirc setup script runs stating that I need the kernel sources; I have the kernel sources, so I'm at a total, total loss. Checked that the symlink was there, 'not sure what the problem is.
I took a hiatus from KnoppMyth and got into Debian because I became interested in Linux and disinterested in MSFT; most of my prior experience was a basic Unix course about 10 years ago & building SmoothWall w/mods & IPCop on & off for the last couple of years, plus dabbling in RedHat about 5 years ago. I then got into Gentoo because it was more hands-on than most distros, and I probably have at least 20 builds up to the present one, which I hope to keep. But, I couldn't resist openSUSE, so I installed it yesterday [actually, I installed it because I'm trying out vmware and being the idiot I am, an install on Gentoo wasn't quite as straightforward]. 'Gotta' hand it to Novell, they really have a nice system, and even I was able to install it, so now I have a triple boot system.
'Sorry for the silly rant; I just work and work on things, and I can usually get things going, and usually when I can't, it's some arcane problem from Mars, or some common sense thing right under my nose.
Anyway, I'm going to work with lirc later and see what I can get going. I just got totally bummed out on working with it and just installed 5D.
Everything anyone would ever need is right here on this forum and the wiki, so I'm sure I'll get the remote working eventually with 5E.

Main thing is, the remote does work now, thanks to the great posts by several members.
Thanks to all of you who work so hard to make this a great project, and post and share info. I still don't know why compiling lirc didn't work; it tried to compile, but broke out right after the sound dev directory.
