Post subject: | Script to check backend is running? |
Hi, I had my first "major" problem with KnoppMyth today. Apparently my backend crashed while I was at work. I tried to sign into MythWeb to schedule a recording I really wanted, and I get the notice "Error Unable to connect to the master backend at 127.0.0.1:6543. Is it running?" Other services on the box like the virtual remotes, docs, and RRD tools are up. I was planning on writing a cron job script to ping the backend port 6543 once per hour and if it didn't respond, kill and restart KnoppMyth. But I have discovered it is not so easy, because you can't just ping a port. I saw a recommendation to telnet for ports being awake, but that doesn't work. I saw a recommendation to nmap or traceroute the ports. I haven't figured out these yet. But I was wondering, has anyone else figured out a way to verify the backend is up and responsive yet? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. |

I had not seen this yet, and I never thought of searching for babysit. Perfect, thanks. Through that thread, I just discovered mbemon. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10998 Man... And from that thread I just discovered monit. Now I really don't know which one I prefer. http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/St ... ing_How_To |
