Post subject: | Achieving higher resolution with i810 |
Hello This is not KnoppMyth related. I'm actually using Ubuntu for this frontend since I was not able to get X to load at all with KnoppMyth on this system (an intel mac mini). But I'm hoping that someone on these forums may have some insight. I'm trying to output at a higher resolution on my frontend which is using the i810 drivers. My DFP is connected via DVI. I've used 915resolution o set the resolution I want to use (1920x540, although I know my display upports 1920x1080) but Xorg still drops me back down to 640x480. In my Xorg.0.log, I see: (II) VESA(0): h_active: 1920 h_sync: 2008 h_sync_end 2052 h_blank_end 2200 h_border: 0 (II) VESA(0): v_active: 540 v_sync: 542 v_sync_end 547 v_blanking: 562 v_border: 0 (II) VESA(0): Ranges: V min: 48 V max: 67 Hz, H min: 30 H max: 34 kHz, PixClock max 80 MHz (II) VESA(0): Monitor name: RCA Scenium (II) VESA(0): Searching for matching VESA mode(s): So I set the resolution with: sudo 915resolution 5c 1920 540 I restart xorg, and I see this in the X logs: (II) VESA(0): Not using mode "1920x1080" (no mode of this name) (II) VESA(0): Attempting to use 60Hz refresh for mode "640x480" (111) Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Check the names in the modeline section of your X config file match the names used in your Screens section. |

Hi, I would think that if you have an i810 video then your xorg.conf Driver should be i810. The vesa is a generic which gets you going at least in a basic mode so you can work on doing the setups. Mike |

I'm using the i810 driver. I've created modelines, but it always says this mode is not availble. I've used 915resolution to modify a mode in the video bios and edited /etc/default/915resolution to use the modified mode as the default resolution. Still nothing. According to the xorg faq, i810 will only use modes supported by the video bios. I believe, however, that my problem is releated to using dvi. I've read on the mythtv-users mailing list that others have had the same problem using dvi->hdmi, but switching to vga out fixed their problem. While true, I can use vga out to a crt and use any resolution i wish, this is not the case when it is connected to my tv via dvi. |
