So I think I need to fix one of two problems. I have some HD content in mkv files. It seems that mythtv doesn't want to seek through these with the internal player. I can't fast forward, rewind or skip. I have seen there is a ticket for this dating back to late 2007 (fixed in the next version of myth hopefully). Any viable workaround for this? I've tried just playing the video in xine, but I get no audio for some reason. I'm not sure which setting needs to get fixed here. I have some AC3 videos that are soundless too in xine, though regular MP3 audio videos work fine. Also mplayer errors out on these videos too.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried mplayer? You may have to update mplayer and codec. I can view/seek mkv just fine on mine... ac3 audio is fine as well.

No dice. After following those instructions, mplayer doesn't play sound on ANY of my video files (no big deal, I don't usually use it anyway). VLC seems to do the trick, though having trouble with surround in it, as in, it doesn't work as surround.

I have mplayer installed and have no trouble with MKV files.
