Post subject:  mplayer playing corrupted media

Sounds odd, but I have a 60 minute x264 video (home video) that's on a DVD that apperently went bad. I get CRC errors when I try to copy it from the DVD to my KM box or to a number of other machines. Long story short, I was able to "recover" it - or at least copy the damaged file off the media using jfilerecovery. My problem is that mplayer will only play the video up to the damaged section. Then it abruptly exits.

If I play it from within Windows (mplayerc) it plays over the damaged section (no video for about 2 sec) and continues on allowing playback. My question: is there a switch I can add to my mplayer option line that will allow this?

Thanks!

You could try copying the disk (ignoring errors) and see if that
makes it more playable.

You could transcode or cut/splice the file...

You could attempt to get the codec you have in Windows
running under Linux. There should be a way to do this, may
be as simple as putting the codec file(s) in the same directory
as the other Windows codecs.

You might try importing into MythTV as a TV recording and
providing a cutlist for it.

Good luck,
Cliff

I dunno how to copy a file and override the CRC error check. That's more or less what jfilerecover is doing.

If you haven't found it already, check the mplayer docs. I ran across this while looking for de-interlacing options and thought of your post. I was just poking around.

Have you tried the −framedrop option, or maybe the skiploopfilter or the lavdopts with the 'er' option or 'fast' option.

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html

I really didn't come up with anything on a google search. I searched the mailing list and several instances of the −framedrop option appeared.

Other than that, I really don't have anything else, :(

Hope it helps,

Jim

Thanks for that, I'll mess around with the options.
