Post subject:  Recording only new episodes

I just installed R5.5, and when scheduling a recording I cannot find the option to record only new episodes in MythFrontend. After some googling, I found that in MythWeb there's a "new episodes only" filter under advanced options, so I've tweaked my schedules that way for now, but presumably there is still a way to do this in MythFrontend.

I expect I am just being dim; can someone point me to where this option is now?

There is an "exclude unidentified episodes" option there
but I don't see a "new episodes only" option.

Funny, I expected it to be there. I know there is a way
of doing this if you set up a "Custom Record" though.

I just ran into the same problem and was wondering if anyone has anymore insight into this since I don't use MythWeb and have quite a few rules that were set up this way under R5F27 that are causing LOTS of reruns to be scheduled for recording.

finsprings, you may have an expectation of dimness however I have a proven track record.

With that in mind, I too come looking for the "missing" feature to record only new episodes.

Anyone got a flashlight?

From the recording options screen (the one where you choose "Record at any time on this/any channel"), choose "Scheduling Options." The sixth option usually is "Look for duplicates in current and previous recordings." Change it to either "Exclude old episodes," "Record new episodes only," or "Record new episode first showings." The setting that is equivalent to the one in MythWeb is "Record new episodes only."

Are you sure you are running R5.5?
Non of the settings you mention exist in my installation. (clean install of R5.5, not an upgrade)

Yeah, I don't have those options there either.

hrm...interesting.

Steps to re-create the anomaly:
  1. Install (not upgrade) KnoppMyth R5.5.
  2. Attempt to schedule a recording; only a couple of the duplicate recording options are available.
  3. Drop the mythconverg database from mysql.
  4. Create a blank mythconverg database.
  5. Start mythtv-setup to allow it to recreate mythconverg.
  6. Configure as normal.
  7. Attempt to schedule a recording; all duplicate recording options are available, including the ones I mentioned in my original post.

Odd. There obviously are discrepancies between the default database provided in KnoppMyth R5.5 and in the database provided by mythtv-setup.

[EDITED FROM ORIGINAL VERSION] I happened to have a Debian system running in my test lab, so I started with that. Christian Marillat's mythtv packages do not appear to exhibit this anomaly. So, this will be a matter of reviewing the two initial databases, finding the differences, and seeing which differences could cause this anomaly.

Stay tuned.

Well, I'm a bit stumped.

First, I corrected my last entry. It appears that Marillat's MythTV packages do not exhibit this anomaly; at least, I could not reproduce it. I must have been a bit bleary-eyed the first time 'round. :-) I was, however, able to reproduce it again with another fresh install of KnoppMyth R5.5.

I compared the settings table between the KnoppMyth initial database and an initial database created by mythtv-setup. I really do not see any differences that would cause this behavior. I also do not see where else in the database such a setting could exist.

I certainly will entertain any ideas on where else to look in the database. The fact that something like this would be caused by an errant database entry seems a bit odd to me anyway, but it is the only conclusion that I have.

The search continues....

I found the New Episodes setting.

It seems it is only available while scheduling a recording or setting options through the mythweb front end.

It is hidden down there in the advanced Settings. If you look in "Filter" you find New Episodes Only.

That is the only place I have been able to find it.

hth.

This used to be an option available without having to go through MythWeb. Is there some way to get this back? Or does anyone know what happened to it???
