Post subject: | fighting with Mythweather in R5.5 - HELP! |
I'm having troubles configuring Mythweather in R5.5. It seems like I am fighting it. I read the R5.5 tips on the subject so I know I started the process correctly. Quote: 3.2) MythWeather setup has changed radically. The new stuff requires that you search for appropriate locations near you and what works for one thing (current conditions) often doesn't work for another (radar maps). Zipcodes/postal codes generally don't work. It's painful but in the US at least, a bit of simple research will provide the information needed: All 5 of the weather screens I set up will display in the Mythweb Weather display window, but only a few of the screens will display in the Mythtv User Interface screens! I have deleted the screens (from inside the Mythtv UI screen) and readded them, by nothing changes - only a few of the screens are displayed in the Mythtv UI, and ALL 5 of them are displayed in the Mythweb Weather display window!?
- For current condtions, 18 hour, 3 day and 6 day forecasts, look up your local airport code(s) here - http://www.airnav.com/airports/. (This is a good piece of general knowledge to have for any number of reasons.) For example in the Boston area KBOS (Logan Airport) and KBED (Hanscom Field) are obvious choices. Once you know that, you can use it to search. - For severe weather alerts the NWS generally does them by county. (Another piece of good general knowledge to have.) Here in the Boston west 'burbs it's "Middlesex" with "Essex", "Suffolk", and "Norfolk" adjacent. Look up your county along with the nearest adjacent counties and use those to search. - For the radar maps what's available is by major region. Northeast, North Central, Northwest, Southeast, South, Southwest, South Central, East Central, Central, West Central, so use one of these to search. Also, for the MythWeather web interface, nothing may show up until you visit the http://YOUR-HOST-OR-IP/mythweb/settings/weather page which initializes the cache. I note in the Weather Setup window of Mythweb, that the 5 weather screens I have entered are numbered 1. 3. 3. 3. 3. That seems like some kind of clue, as I would expect them to be numbered 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Also, I cannot Add, Move or Remove any of the 5 weather screens from the Mythweb Weather Setup window. Another clue? Is there a way to clear out all the Mythweather settings and start again?? Is there a configuration file that I can edit with nano or are the settings part of the database? I really like Mythweather and need some help fighting it! Eric |

![]() You'll have to start a new thread for Mythweather in R6. This thread is specific to R5.5. Good luck. |

Post subject: | still getting mixed results |
Using the setup screens in the Mythtv graphic user interface, I deleted all the weather screens but one (the system won't let you delete the remaining screen) and added the weather screens back one by one. Now, all the screens are correctly numbered, as seen from the Mythweb weather configuration screen. ![]() When I view the weather info from the Mythweb weather viewer, all 5 of the screens I configured are displayed just fine. ![]() But, I still don't get all 5 screens when viewed from the Mythtv computer via the Mythtv frontend. The Current Conditions screen simply WILL NOT show up in from the Mythtv GUI. Do we have any Mythweather experts out there? |

I may be as close as we've got. The current conditions screen a has been slow for me too. It comes up eventually but it may take several minutes. Possible corrective actions are limited: - Check the current MythTV SVN repository for any updates. The re-engineered weather support in 0.21 of MythTV uses a set of easily replaceable scripts for the web fetching parts that are very subject to change. There might be a newer/better/faster fetcher for current conditions there. - Debug and fix the existing script yourself. This probably isn't an option for many folks, but if the problem is something simple it might be doable. Mike (mjl) has done a bunch of stuff related to personal weather stations and such. If you want current conditions there's nothing like the readings from your own weather station to give you _current_ and _local_ results. He's been learning to write shells scripts so you might even be able to convince him to attempt one that integrates with MythWeather... |

Post subject: | so odd, current conditions worked a few weeks ago |
Thanks for the ideas tjc. The frustrating part is that Current Conditions worked a few weeks ago - before I rearranged the order of the screens. Then it didn't display in the Mythtv GUI any more - only in the Mythweb interface. The scripts are the same, so I have to believe the problem lies elsewhere - possibly in the database? Eric |
