Took the plunge over the weekend and upgraded to LinHes R6, Saturday to be exact. Now as of the previous Friday night I am unable to delete previous recording. Once deleted, either from the frontend or Mythweb, the recordings just reappear. Also all new recording show up in the frontend but are not playable. Error out with file can not be found message.

Let me start from the beginning. Running the upgrade went without many hassles. The new menu system is quite nice. Once the upgrade was complete I went to my recording to verify the recording were ok. Trying to play a recording displays the “file was not found” error. Upon further investigation my second hard drive was not mounted via the fstab therefore all of the recording on that drive (1Tb) were not available. I mounted this drive and things seemed to work fine.

Code:
ProgramInfo, Error: GetPlaybackURL: '1042_20091004214549.mpg' should be local, but it can not be found.

Looking at the backend log I am seeing errors like this for any of the new recording from the upgrade on.
Code:
2009-10-04 22:08:53.723 Error deleting '/myth2/tv/1028_20091002220000.mpg' could not open
      eno: Permission denied (13)
2009-10-04 22:08:53.864 Delete Error '/myth2/tv/1028_20091002220000.mpg'
         eno: Permission denied (13)
2009-10-04 22:08:53.865 Error deleting file: /myth2/tv/1028_20091002220000.mpg. Keeping metadata in database.

It appears that permissions have somewhat been changed/messed up. Doing a bit of searching I have run across a few other posts that state that permissions can change when the backend is run as root or when things get shutdown incorrectly.

I will try a few thing when home, but just want to see if there were any other suggestions.

As you mentioned from your searching, it could be a file permissions problem. When I upgraded a few weeks ago and copied over my recordings, somewhere I hosed my permissions/user/group on the recording files. The result was that they would reappear if I tried to delete them - just like you mention at the top of your post. I think a simple "chown" command did the trick and everything went smoothly from there for me (I think the proper user/group is mythtv mythtv, but not in front of my computer right now to check for sure).

@segamifo

A little
Code:
chown mythtv:mythtv /myth2
chown mythtv:mythtv /myth2/tv/*.mpg
chown mythtv:mythtv /myth2/tv/*.png

and everything is back to normal. Now to just get x11vnc access and samba the way I want it.

Thanks for your help

This may cause problems with the web interface. There are a couple directory trees under /myth that should be owned by www-data so that less privileged user has access.

This was only done for my myth2 mount, which is only recorded shows. This is my second drive in storage groups.

Right, the warning was intended for anyone considering it as a general recommendation.

Is this still true for R6? I don't have a www-data user, just a http:http user.

Secondly, which directories under /myth should be owned by this user?

In R5.5 it looks like it was /myth/streamtv and /myth/image_cache, sadly I don't have an R6 system running at the moment (my test box had some problems and there hasn't been time to fix it).
