re: the usb streamzap receiver >> cat ate the cable. Ordered new one! Hence that issue is "resolved"

libxvmc still an issue. when osd is on screen I get stutters, still researching issue. When osd off screen, I get (from top):

6853 mythtv 20 0 552m 343m 60m S 74 17.0 30:49.27 mythfrontend
4410 mythtv 20 0 244m 40m 11m S 2 2.0 0:17.41 mythbackend
6810 root RT -10 275m 258m 7032 S 1 12.8 1:27.75 Xorg

mythfrontend pretty high but working. Xorg crazy low tho I'm not complaining, it's just that most threads that I've read mention issues with both mythfrontend & X in general. So I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks.

Ha! feles mala!

Remember that there are 2 pieces to using XvMC, #1 is enabling it at the xorg.conf level, #2 is setting up an appropriate playback profile in the setup menus. Don't forget to check the log files to see if it's really using it.

Oh, and try turning off the various SyncToVBlank options under setup and the nvidia-settings util. Those play very badly with HD output if you don't have "UseEvents" turned on, and still cause a problem even with it. It looks like they're doing busy waits to force the sync.

During playback are commercials also hd or is that hit or miss? I'm curious because I do see the decoder change back & forth from libmpeg/xvmc.

Also why do I sometimes see "renderer not available" messages? I am assuming that if the setup gui lets me select a renderer than it is installed on my box. Am I just assuming too much?

Lastly I'm using libXvMCNVIDIA.so.173.14.09 mostly because it's what came with R5.5. When I ftp to download.nvidia.com:/XFree86/Linux-x86/ I see *lots* of versions available. Would I be better off to just upgrade to the latest (symlink to 185.18.36) or the larger revision number (probably beta) 190.42?

Then again there are two different numbering formats. Some are like the ones listed above. Others are like "1.0-9762" but are from 2007 or so. Did nvidia change their versioning schema at some point or what is the difference between the two?

Thanks, Abs

Mix and match. I see the same on various channels. It's especially obvious if you try to edit a cut list and you're stepping through by key frames.

It means that the system knows that renderer won't work for some reason. Say Bob2x or as in this example xvmc-blit:
Code:
/var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log.7:2009-10-13 22:31:19.501 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'xvmc-blit' not available.

Same here. WFM.

Yes they did. The older 71xx, and 96xx series are listed as 1.0-xxxx, where the newer versions use 2-3 part numbering like 173.14.09, or 180.60.
