Post subject:  LinHES Installation to USB Flash Drive

I am interested in installing LinHES 6.02 (migrating from my 200GB) to a 8GB USB drive (16 if necessary) and using a NTFS drive to hold videos / TV recordings. Has anyone had any success installing LinHES to a USB flash drive? If you have any insight to the obstacles and fixes, I would appreciate constructive comments.

Post subject:  First Step: Flash Drive Requirements

The first step I have taken is to assess what size USB flash drive is needed:

Code:
[root@mythtv ~]# df -h

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 4.9G 3.6G 997M 79% /
none 996M 0 996M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda3 181G 135G 37G 79% /myth

Code:
[root@mythtv ~]# mkdir /mnt/test
[root@mythtv ~]# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/test
[root@mythtv ~]# ls /mnt/test

bin data etc lib media myth proc sbin sys usr
boot dev home lost+found mnt opt root srv tmp var

It would seem that the core (OS \ Applications) are contained in /dev/sda1. Given that only 3.6G are used a 4GB USB flashdrive should be sufficient. I suspect that the price difference between a 4GB and 8GB would be negligable and it will make sense to use the 8GB stick.

The biggest thing to watch out for is that you don't put directories which get written to a lot on your flash drive. Putting /var/log or /tmp on a flash device would exceed the maximum number of write cycles pretty quickly.

Well, other Dirstributions got rid of that Problem too.
FreeNAS does use some kind of overlay RAM-FS if I remeber that one right?!?

Or it is possible to use btrfs, because it is designed for exactly that!

But both mean, that LinHes has to keep care of these features right?
