I have had KnoppMyth installed and running on a 20GB drive, I think I had an earlier version R5A12 on a 10GB drive, worked, but gave no space for recordings, filled up pretty quick.

Sound fast enough, but what is the motherboard/chipset? Otherwise I agree with Xsecrets, a roached burn is a strong suspect here.

Here is a tip about burning apart from the speed thing. I now use a ReWritable CD for a couple of reason.
1. The releases are coming thick and fast, so don't waste CD-Rs
2. CD-RW's automatically burn at a slower speed
3. If you stuff your burn, erase it and start again.
Just what I do.

another question, I have not even looked on the web yet but I will ask any ways,
how do I install plugins?
I can not play a dvd, a missing encoder is the problem, I sure there is a plug in for it.

Search the forum for DVD playback, or check http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/ and the Xine HOWTO for what's missing and why it's missing (it's DMCA related).

I found a download of themes and plugins, I downloaded them on a windows xp computer burned them to disk but don't know how to install them
will something like that work?
I don't know linux command line but I know the web pages talk you through it.
that is one think I like about windows, easy installs

how hard is it to screw up installing themes and plug ins for someone that is brand new to linux.

Honestly, if you're brand new to Linux, count on screwing up stuff right and left. Be prepared to just trash your install and do it again from scratch. I've installed and reinstalled so many times it's second nature to me. Take lots of notes on what you did during the install, so you can repeat your steps.
I've never installed any themes so can't say how hard it is. The link I pointed you to looked relatively easy as things go.
As people say around here, Google is your friend. Search there, search the MythTV user mailing list, search the KnoppMyth wiki, search this forum. Make sure you do your research before posting a question.

most all the plugins and themes should be installed on a default install.
