I installed knopp Myth TV. went through a reboot. I don't know linux, and now a command line opens up, I can't figure out how to get to the GUI. I have seen the GUI on webpages but I can't get there from a command line.
Can any one help me
I don't know if I need a linux command or a MythTV command or something special command. I attend college and talked to some staff about it, and no one understands what I am talking about because they have never delt with it.
it comes up with
(name)@mythtv:^$
I know the second symbol is out correct but close.
I understand it is user name @ host but I don't know where to go from there.

Thank You

does it come up to that prompt or does it come up to a command login?

you really should not ever see the command line on an install that goes ok. your video card may not be detected properly, or you may be trying to install on a tv or similar output device, or you may have a bad burn.

I am using 64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX400 AGP Video Card w/ DVI and TV Out, old school, I know. I don't have a caption card yet, I wanted to see want MythTV looked and felt like.

It comes up with
(name)@mythtv:^$
I assumed this was a linux command line.

Thank you for your replies.

I have instructor that had Windows Media Center trial and was not happy with it, he is really interested in my out comes.

I have read alot of reviews on Myth TV and really wanting it to work.

Thank you again for the replies.

that is similar to a linux command prompt, but there is no way you should ever see that without a login prompt first. you must have a bad install or bad burn or bad download on the cd. double check the md5sum and burn at a slower speed and try the install again.

Could also be that the Xserver didn't start and dropped him back to the log in?

well no cause if the X server fails to start it will drop him to a login

login:

not

(name)@mythtv:^$

unless something went wrong you will never get a prompt till after you login.

Shell window after the installer runs maybe? Is there a penguin sitting on a couch in the background?

In that case the prompt should look like:
Code:
mythtv@mythtv:~$

i.e. - "UserName@HostName:CurrentDirectory$"
Where ~ is shorthand for your home directory "/home/mythtv"

there is no penguin,
I did an auto install it hung at 35% for awhile before finishing, it is just 20 gig hard drive. It has had fordora core 3 and windows xp on it. It took between 3 and 4 hours to format and install. During the boot after the install, it asks for user name and then the next line is
(name)@mythtv:^$ it is an all black screen like command screen.

Thank you for all the support and trouble shooting
I am downloading another iso from a different site.

What are the specs on your hardware? It sounds like it maybe a bit underpowered...

1) it shouldn't take so long to run an install, something went wrong.

2) I don't think autoinstall will run on a 20Gb drive. I believe it requires at least a 60Gb drive.

see my earlier post about a bad cd. I have seen similar strange problems with a bad burn.
