Hello, I have my backend setup working fine, problem is frontend. Downloaded the 0.18.1 Tiger Build (from here, ran it, but I am 100% sure I used an incorrect password or something, I dont remember exactly. Anyway, when I start it up, I get: Code: /Users/briangig/Desktop/MythFrontend.app/Contents/Resources
2005-06-27 21:24:19.213 New DB connection, total: 1 2005-06-27 21:25:33.965 Unable to connect to database! 2005-06-27 21:25:33.965 Driver error was [1/2003]: QMYSQL3: Unable to connect Database error was: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mythtv' (60) 2005-06-27 21:26:48.975 Unable to connect to database! 2005-06-27 21:26:48.975 Driver error was [1/2003]: QMYSQL3: Unable to connect Database error was: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mythtv' (60) 2005-06-27 21:26:48.976 Database not open while trying to load setting: GuiVidModeResolution 2005-06-27 21:28:03.988 Unable to connect to database! 2005-06-27 21:28:03.988 Driver error was [1/2003]: QMYSQL3: Unable to connect Database error was: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mythtv' (60) 2005-06-27 21:28:03.988 Database not open while trying to load setting: GuiVidModeWidth 2005-06-27 21:29:18.999 Unable to connect to database! 2005-06-27 21:29:19.000 Driver error was [1/2003]: QMYSQL3: Unable to connect Database error was: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'mythtv' (60) 2005-06-27 21:29:19.000 Database not open while trying to load setting: GuiVidModeHeight In the Console log...which is fine...just need to change the settings on in the mac frontend software... well, I've tried deleting, reinstalling, re-downloading...but I cant get it to start up at ALL. It just bounces in the dock, and then stops responding...Is there a file or something I am missing? its like its saving the settings, even though they should be deleted. |

ok...well, i tried a older build, 0.17, and it at least got me back to the menu...then I tried 0.18, and it brought me to the menu too! Oh, and my problem wasnt a wrong passwd or anything, I had to allow connections to mysql...but it works now, and it is awesome! Only problem is I am stuck on my powermac, as it seems the front end doesnt work on G3s? |

Hi Brian. 1) There is a bootstrapping bug where, if you are networked, it takes ages to work out that there is no MySQL server at the address it is trying (127.0.0.0). 2) The package you downloaded may have been compiled for G4 processors only, but even if you did download a non-G4 version, the frontend is currently unusable on a G3. I developed on a 1.2GHz G4 and that is not fast enough for HD content, but is very usable for SD. My 400MHz G4 is not fast enough for SD content. |

A G3 will never be powerful enough for Myth, there is just too much going on for it to keep. It would be like a client of mine trying to run Adobe CS2 on his G3. (Yeah I know not exactly, but you get the point) |

Never is a strong word, Girkers! 1) If the stream is a low enough bit rate, it will work 2) There is an experimental library that may allow hardware decoding of MPEG2 streams (i.e. via the video card), which may allow the frontend to play back on any machine that can play DVDs. Which isn't many G3s, but it may have them usable. See: http://www.defyne.org/dvb/accellent.html Of course, I barely have time to contemplate this, let alone re-engineer yet another videoout module and debug the library code ![]() |
