Hi all - this is my first post on this forum. I have only just brushed the surface of MythTv in the last day or so and it looks fantastic !

I would like to know whether the software can handle timeshift recording, ie I would like to be able to start watching a tv show a half hour into recording it whilst still recording in the background.

Also, I would like to know the best Digital Tuner card for use in Australia.

Thanks in advance.

AverMedia 771 and DVICO Fusion HDTV lite are both good reception and cheap.

i have spent literally the WHOLE day tryinmg to get something here to work, I see that there is a resounding issue with EPG's in Australia.

I have looked at both GB-PVR and Media Portal, at least I could get an image on the screen with these ! But I still had the same issues with an EPG and the dreaded xmltv file.

Do you have any suggestions as to how us Aussies ( Brisbane ) can get this working ? I cant even view a TV station through KnopMyth !

Nigel,

would you not recommend that people use the visionplus - its's much cheaper at $75 on special ?

mate.. a whole day is nothing... ive been learning for months and still dont have a fully working box. given theres no zap2it in australia, and there isnt a really reliable tv_grab_au .. tuning channels and getting the guide working is much more of a challenge here.

id suggest seaching greg frost's posts.. he's provided lots of info and code for australians.. he's in adelaide.. but his posts are still relivent. be sure to post specific questions though.. people here are friendly and want to help.. but its hard unless youre specific about what you want...

goodluck.

Cheaper, but the tuner is much less sensitive. Plus, KnoppMyth R5A14/15/16 will hang at boot with the VisionPlus. Note that I have three of these cards. They work well enough with an appropriate kernel (older) and an RF amplifier to drive them.

I also wouldn't recommend the AverMedia 761. It is even less sensitive than the VisionPlus (I wasted months on that card), and it also requires a firmware upload.

a) We do feel your pain, having all been through this

b) MythTV is a complicated system. Unless each step of the setup is working, then nothing will work at the end.

Regarding the EPG, what happens when you type
Code:
tv_grab_au --configure ; tv_grab_au
with appropriate responses, in an XTerm (or the console once logged in)

ilium,

From your writeup I can't see what card you are using, can you let us know which one.. If it is a DVB, then I suggest you run the script written by Garth, also located in Brisvagas. Just take lines to upgrade the tv_grab_au
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=28455&

If you are using visionplus DVB-T, I have just got mine working this weekend, after a long while - I started to use knopmyth in June 04, and have been running with analog tuner ever since then.

Nigel,
Can you clarify if da1.com.au does cater for SD channels in australia? , I thought that's why Garth has updated his version of tv_grab_au for EPG ?
