my roommate is a racing fan and he puts all of his races on the mythtv and offloads them onto dvds. the problem is he's slow and the mythtv fills up. thus nullifying my $800 investment. is it possible to somehow run two mythbackends, each recording to its own directory, so we could each have our own harddrive space? the box actually has two 120 GB drives in it and we're just using 1. i considered just raiding the drives to make it 240GB, but we'd end up with the same problem in a month or so. |

yes, it is very possible. In fact, its normal. You have a 'Master backend' and Slave backends. The master controls the slaves of course, and you can theoretically have as much space as you want. Someone can go into specifics cause i can't find them at the moment |

I think he's talking about inside the same box, and while it would most likely be possible it is far from a normal configuration. |

You could set his recordings to auto expire, and yours to not auto expire. Then it will only delete his when a new recording is scheduled. When he sees his races are getting deleted because of lack of space he will start archiving faster. |

Why not just tell you roommate to purchase another tuner (and possibly a hard drive) to put in the box? |

i think i'm going to help him setup http://www.gbpvr.com/ the slave thing is tempting, but we may be parting ways soon and he's not that computer literate, so i think its better if his pvr runs on windows. |

if he going to setup a windows pvr this would be my choice: http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/ its in phillosophy (sp?) closer to mythtv (open source).. and almost as cool. I am a myth person myself, but i understand not wanting to be your roomies IT person. |

alas media portal does not support the 350's tv-out ![]() edit: hmm, the gbpvr programmer says the 350 support is flakey so maybe we'll try something else. |
