Hi forum,

When I try to watch TV with mythtv I get the dreaded black screen and get dumped back into the menu after about 30s.

I have ivtv working cause I can switch channels with ptune-ui.pl and watch tv using mplayer /dev/video

When I run mythfrontend in an xterm I get the following output:

Code:

Perhaps checking the backend log.

It can't read from the card. But mplayer /dev/video works

You got your clue, now run with it... The backend is telling you want the problem is (Couldn't read data...). What kind of tuner card do you have? Have you specified a card and tuner type (if need be)? Is the card conflicting w/ another device? Is the card properly seated? Is the card properly configured? Is the feed active?

Hi,

Errors to knoppmyth are like a wife, you don't want them unhappy :) If it complains about the /.qt then fix it. As root
#<code>
ln -s /home/mythtv/.qt /.qt # watch the space seperation between t /
#<end code>
I don't know if it is needed but it makes it happy and doesn't complain.

Also for the ringbuffer, try
#<code>
chown mythtv:mythtv /cache
chown mythtv:mythtv /cache/*
#<end code>
No promises, but no harm either.

cesman

I have a PVR 150 with ivtv-0.3.6x and the problem is not with ivtv. I can watch tv and change channels using mplayer & ptune-ui. The problem lies iwth the backend.

I already did chown -R a+rwx /cachc but that did not help. Besides the backend is running as root.

Hi,
Please don't confuse me with cesman, he's a nice gentleman and I don't want him unhappy with me!

The ringbuf is stored in the /cache/cache. Maybe the backend runs as root but if mythtv needs to write the buffer, it needs permission. If mythtv owns it it then has permission. Root always has permission.

As I said earlier, it won't cause harm and may actually help. I don't really know what the -R a+rwx does but sounds painful.

Hi MIke,

Don't worry I was trying to reply to both you and Cesman.

chmod a+rwx gives read write and execute permissions to everybody and the kitchen sink. So the ringbuffer file is accessible for everyone. The problem is that the backend somehow can't read from the PVR 150 card so it doesn't fill the ringbuffer

I've had this card on my main system running gentoo and mythtv 0.18.1-r1 with ivtv-0.3.6x and there it runs just fine.

Still stumped.

Hi,
I only saw the one level for the cache and I know that area can cause issues.

You seem to have a better knowledge than I, so can only suggest that maybe if you gave the usual hardware details that maybe the guru's can pick up something more specific and gave the needed clue.

Best of luck.
