I have installed R5A16, setup MythTV, etc. and Live TV video works without any sound. Sound does work otherwise (such as playing a CD).
dmesg reveals that ivtv detects the card and tveeprom shows it as a Temic 4046FM5 (idx = 43, type = 22) [PAL(D/K)].

The /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file has the 'tuner type=2

I have tried an ivtv recompilation (0.2.0), and an update (0.3.7c) with no success - everything remains the same.

xawtv also segfaults whenever I attempt to view video through it.

Here is the /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file contents:

remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv && /sbin/modprobe -r saa7115 && /sb$

ok obviously you've done some research as you told us what the card is detected as by ivtv and what the proper file has it set too, but they don't match, so why didn't you change the file to match what it is detected as like all the threads say to?

At any rate change the /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file to have type = 22 reboot and see what happens.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have already tried that..
When changed to 22, video turns to static.
For some reason '39' seems to allow video to work without sound (just like when it was commented out), though I returned it to default anyway.

Thanks.

hmmm very odd, just for grins try 5 that is the pal version of 2 usually, but cards that use those tuners haven't been sold in a long time. There are also a couple of other tuner types you can try scattered throughout the forum, also you said the video works, but not sound, you might want to check to make sure sound is not muted in the ivtv drivers. you use ivtvctl or something like that to find out, you may have to search on it, as that's all from memory, and I haven't used that utility much since it was test_somethingorother.

I just tried '5' as a tuner type, and it gives video (minus the ability to switch channel) with no audio, still.
Checked ivtvctl, and it isn't muted (volume is set to about 50000).
I may try a few more tuner types; any more help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've tried quite a few more tuner types without any success.. also looked through ivtvctl settings to see if it was set to pal audio..

Anything else I should try?

Hi zeiphon,

Don't know how things are setup overseas, however in the US we have several different options, broadcast, cable, cable hrc, etc. May want to check your mythtv-setup to ensure you have made the correct choice. I think the setting that gave you snow would be the one to use as the others are probably tuned off frequency enough to allow picking part of a sideband or are on the wrong side of the carrier.

Just a thought.

Hi.
I double-checked just then, and it's set properly (australia only has 'australia' and 'australia-optus').

Thanks.

Hi zeiphon,

Sorry that didn't help however there are some posts in the hardware department that may be of value as they relate to the PVR250. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.
I have looked throughout the hardware section with no avail (usually sound problems are fixed with an ivtv recompile, which unfortunatley doesn't work for me).

Check your cardinput table and see what audiodevice is set to. If it is set to NULL try changing it to /dev/dsp and reboot.
