I have followed the instructions of the mysthstreamTV README and configured VLC and FFMpeg exactly as required, I then did a MAKE and MAKE INSTALL for each.
I then ran the mythstreamTV install.sh script and filled in the information requested. The script reported that it had succeeded. So now I have the "stream recordings" option on my mythweb which allows configuration of the stream parameters, then pressing "Start Live Stream" displays a page with an empty box, play stop buttons etc and a links for Launch Stream mms or http. When I select the http link it brings up a connection failed page, when I try mms the player is lauched but never connects. I have tried on LAN but still the same so not a firewall issue. Nothing appears in the mythstream log file which remains empty.

I have gone through the whole proccess 3 times but always exactly the same result, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions I could try to narrow down the problem?

well, sounds like vlc is not starting. Here is what I suggest. After you press the 'Start Streaming' button, the next screen displays the command that is executed.

I would run this command from an xterm and look for errors.

I would expect one of two outcomes:

1) Error is displayed and vlc stops - debug the error (permission?)

2) If no errors are displayed and vlc contunues to run, then hit the mms: link and watch for errors.

by the way, the text box in mythweb is simply the contents of the log.txt file in the directory you installed the mythstreamtv scripts into.

Type 'top' at the command line to see if its running properly in the background. It takes about 30% of the Athlon XP 2600+ on my R5A16 box.

I have am now getting information into the log as below :-

Quote:
VLC already alive, I'm going to whack it. THE PROCESS I MEAN!
Starting Stream of /myth/tv/1040_20050819122800_20050819130000.nuv
VLC media player 0.8.2 Janus
[00000239] main interface: creating httpd
[00000239] main interface error: option test2 does not exist
[00000239] main interface error: option test2 does not exist
[00000239] main interface error: option test2 does not exist
nscode{vcodec=$VCODEC,acodec=$ACODEC,vb=$VB,ab=$AB,scale=$SIZE}:std{access=http{user=$HTTP_USER,pwd=$HTTP_PWD,mime=video/x-ms-asf},mux=asf,url=:8082}"

How ever still no streaming file, I tried "TOP" and when I request streaming VLC does run and appears at the top of the list.

I have noticed that I am using VLC 0.8.2 instead of 0.8.1 would that make a differance?

not sure about the vlc version. I am using 0.8.1 configed as defined on the sourceforge site.

never saw this before:
Code:
main interface error: option test2 does not exist

You may want to try using the mms protocol
