So what I want to do is setup a mythtv box that I can use to record tv, but then I want to be able to watch tv on my television. I know I should just use a monitor, but my roommates want to use their tv and not a (as they put it) "crappy small monitor". So my hope is to stick the mythtv computer behind the tv and then let them use the tv to watch. Watching live is not really that important, I am more excited about recording and watching later. So is there anyway to do this or has anyone done this before. Sorry if this is a stupid question I was just curious.

thankz in advance

Most decent modern TVs support taking input from more than one source (say a DVD player or VCR or AV tuner or ... as well as the cable). Even if it's a really old or really cheap TV (or a high end tunerless monitor) you can still get yourself a little switch box (or an AV receiver) to do it.

Given that, you can split the cable, hook one branch up to the TV (or tuner/switch) along with the output from your MythTV box, and DVD player, and ... and the other branch of the cable to your MythTV box as an input.
