Post subject: | Default Tuner |
I was just playing around with a second tuner in my box. I got it to work and was able to switch to it by pressing Y on the keyboard. However, how does myth decide which tuner is the default when watching live TV? Did I miss a setup option somewhere? |

I read somewhere it is just the one that you added first (although this was considered a problem that should be addressed) |

The one that I physically add to the machine first or the first one I add to myth-setup? If the latter, can I delete them both and then add them to myth-setup in the reverse order? |

The one you add in mythtv setup first. I suspect your suggestion would work. Let us know how it goes if you give it a try |

It uses the first one you added in mythtv-setup (and yes you can run mythtv-setup tell it to delete the cards and add them in a different order) or if you check the box somewhere to avoid conflicts it will choose whichever tuner is least likely to record or something like that, though hasn't seemed to work all that well for me. |

Something is a little fishy with the way myth plays with tuner setup. When I was using three 250s it worked well, the order was fine, and it seemed to detected them based on hardware position. You could then set the tuner priority. With tuner priority and avoid conflict with live tv, my setup worked great. Now when one 250, and one 500, I can not seem to find a combination that works. Card priority means nearly nothing, and the 250 always displays as Video0 no matter what order I try and set it up, or what PCI slot is it in. This causes problems, as I want the two 500 tuners to be the ones used for recording, and the 250 for live tv, since that is also where the digital cable box hooks up for higher channels. Now this requires a Y key press. Default shmeefault. Damn thing is all wacky now. |

the video? device number a card gets is irrelevant, what matters is what order you add them to mythtv-setup. if you add video3 first then it becomes card1 for recording purposes. |

then in a multi tuner setup, how do you know what videoX device is which card? And if the device number does not matter, then what is the point of the card priority setting when making the input connections. I am more baffled now. ![]() |

Quote: then in a multi tuner setup, how do you know what videoX device is which card? this can be a problem if they are the same type of card connected to the same video source. my little brother had two m179's and he just had to add them both then connect each separately till we could figure out which was which and then Quote: And if the device number does not matter, then what is the point of the card priority setting when making the input connectionshe labeled them.
The priority matters, but the priority doesn't go with /dev/video0 or /dev/video1 it goes with that cards entry in the database, and by default if you do not set any priorities then the first card you enter into the database is going to get a higher priority even though the priority settings are equal. |
