I am looking to make a box for a backend that I can offload and store content from my OzTiVO. And then running a few Xboxs around the house as Myth frontends. I can't run a Xbox/PCs getting content from the TiVO whilst the TiVO is being used, it causes the TiVO to be a bit jerky...

Can MythTV handle Tivo's TY video files native? Or do they need to be changed to something else before Myth will dish it up for the frontends?

Can a barebones install be done without a tuner card? Also without a capture card? Just Myth in a box talking to the frontends. Or maybe someone could suggest something different to run.

MythTV can run fine without any tuner cards, this is not a requirement, but was the original intention of the system. Everything else are just plug ins.

I can't tell you for sure if MythTV can play your TiVo video files, but the theory of using a backend that is simply a "fileserver" would be fine. You would just need to mount the TiVo box onto your backend and set MythTV directories up appropriately.
