Just out of curiousity, where is the proper place in the MythTV world to request a feature at? As far as I can tell, what I want to do is not implemented at this time.

The idea is to start a recording late and/or stop a recording early. This is to work around the networks and thier starting a show at 9:59 or ending a show at 10:01, and the resulting problems of not recording a show that begins at 10pm (due to the 10:01 show) or the show that starts at 9:59 and is not recorded due to a show recording on another channel that ends at 10.

I realize that it the easy solution at the moment is to add a second tuner, but easy isn't fun:) If there's a technical reason for this not being done, I'm sure that someone will come forth with that info as well.

Thanks for the help,

Chuck

There is no official place to ask... Odds are you'll be told to write it yourself. You can start a show early or late already. Doesn't this work for what you describe?

you can set global start early and late times, or you can set per recording start early/late times, that take precedence over the global ones. what more do you want?

Okay, I found what you are describing. That was my mistake.

The reason that I had not found it before was that I use the mythweb option to program the DVR. When I started playing with MythTV it seemed the web option had all the major programming features of the onscreen programing. So I've just been in the habit of only using the web option. This is one place that , I have now found, it is different. The options to start early/end late are there but not start late/end early options.

So I guess I just have to figure out the best way to work this feature into the web interface.

Chuck, the feature is in the web interface. When you tell a program to record it is down the bottom of the recording options to start early and finish late.

There are two different ways of doing this. One is at the time of setting a recording up, and like Girkers said, this is available in MythWeb. The other way was mentioned by Xsecrets, the global start and end times. The advantage to the Global method is that it will adjust itself if you have two shows set to record on different channels back to back. If you have only one tuner, and force show A to end 5 min later than the hour, but have another show set to start right on that next hour, then you will loose the first 5 min, or not get one recording at all depending on the show priorities. Ouch. Using the global setting it will adjust so the shows do not conflict with each-other, thus preventing the chance of not getting one of the scheduled recordings. Now if we could just tell a show to use a particular tuner for a multi tuner setup.. That is a feature we need.
