Post subject: | Another 'no sound post" |
I am trying to get sound working with a Cmedia 8768 onboard sound card using the analog out, since I don't have anywhere to plug the SP/DIF port in to. I have speakers plugged into the headphone jack and I also have my Audio out on the back going to another set of speakers just in case it may use one or the other ports. It looks like all the drivers are loaded correctly but I could be wrong as I am a newbie to linux. In mythfrontend it is set to use /dev/dsp. When I go back to the shell I am receiving many "Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost!" messages. I have read that R5A16 has the IEC958 on by default and that I need to mute this. When I go into alsamixer, I am unable to mute this option. I have ran amixer and I see that the "IEC958 Output" is on. So I tried to use amixer set "IEC958 Output" mute and I get a response looking like my change worked. But if I run amixer again it isn't muted. I have ran alsaconf and it sees my soundcard correctly and it looks to load the drivers again but even after I still get no sound. Do I need to update alsa, drivers..etc? If so I am unaware on how to do this. Is my problem all because of the IEC958 option? I only have a HD3000 setup using ATSC, so no analog. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I noticed in alsaconf that it is using the CMI8738 driver and after more looking I don't seem to think there is a driver for the CMI8768. If anyone knows if there is a way to get this card to work I would appreciate it. Otherwise I will have to go to a windows based system. I have a Small form factor case with only 1 AGP and 1 PCI slot which I have used with the fx5200 and the HD3000 so I cant add another soundcard. Now my only problem may be no windows drivers for the HD3000 so I may be screwed either way. Thanks everyone for all your help on previous questions. Much appreciated! Esherm22 |

Thanks cesman. after reading the developers mailing list I may have found a solution. Supposedly a beta bios is available for my motherboard which should fix my problem. I will try tonight and post tomorrow hopefully with success! |

I am having the same problem with this card. It works fine if I set Mythtv to ALSA:Default and do not let myth set the volume. But that sucks. |
