Can someone describe or point me to a document that details the correct way to setup mythtv to use the composite 0 source (in my case a camcorder) and how one can capture that to an mpeg2 stream for editing? I'm using a PVR-250. From what I've read in here you have to define the composite0 source to your cable on a channel you're not using and then switch to live tv mode and hit 'R' to record? Thanks! |

Hi To each their own for a method, however in mythtv-setup, I did add a source of "Video" with the default channel of "1". Then I assigned composite 0 to Video. Next was to make a new channel, Video, channel 1 ,Video, commercial free, Video, NTSC, then set the freq id to 1. You can watch video by going to channel 1, audio is fed into the card on a pvr-350. IF you select channel 1, you must use a chennel 9 or < to switch back to tv, after you are off channel 1 all is normal. You may manully schedule recordings, you can not press "R" as there needs to be a database listing to do that. Manual set up works fine, set the timer and just watch the clock. Press play when the time comes up, also you can put in a label. Stop it just like anyother recording. Good luck Mike |

Thank you both for your speedy replies. I actually tried Andrew's method first since using the console via ssh is so convenient. I actually posted a problem relating to the lack of audio in the thread Andrew posted in his reply to my original request. Can anyone help me out with that? Thanks! |

Hi, If you have audio with tv, you should have audio with composite. My 350 card has a mini jack for input, not through the computer. I think the input side of the 250 is the same as a 350. Mike |

In case anyone has the same question, I got a private message asking how to connect a VCR (3 RCA jacks) up to the PVR250 via a cable. Quote: How did you get the sound from your VCR (big white connector... or is it yellow???) to the little jack on the PVR-250? Does Radio Shack sell a converter? Thanks. My reply: Quote: The handycam I wanted to connect up came with a cord that fits into that microjack you're referring to in your question. One end of the cord has your standard RCA jacks (red, white, and yellow) and the other end has the microjack.
Red------| White---|===============|-microplug Yellow---| I've actually looked for these in stores around here but didn't find anything (I didn't look really hard). If you'd like to see this depicted in a manual (not my crude text illustration, look up the manual for a Hi8 handycam model 250E from this webpage. Download the pdf (it's 10 megs) and look at page 3. The manual simply calls it an, "A/V connecting cable." Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to post your question and my reply in the forum in case others have the same question. If you find out what this plug is called and where it's available, please let me know. Regards! |

Post subject: | DV Camcorder |
Hi, I was wondering how to transfer digital camcorder footage from a DV handycam (Sony). I have it hooked up by firewire to the firewire input on a VIA EPIA MII. Do I have to pretend my camcorder is a Firewire Capture Card and play around with myth-setup? |
