Post subject:  Two guides - possible?

I have cable TV plugged into my current MythTV box and was thinking of adding a second capture device to incorporate a satellite set-top box.

The end goal would be to have a second guide available for the satellite STB, with ability to select shows etc like on cable and have an IR blaster change the channel on the Satellite STB.

Is this possible? Is MythTV limited to only one guide?

please forgive my ignorance...

You can have multiple sources defined. They all show up in the same guide however.

For example, at one point I was getting three different sets of channel data. 1) Cable 2) Extra 3) HDTV (local broadcast). Extra was a hack to work around a listing bug and got folded back into the Cable stuff via some SQL magic, but HDTV was an entirely seperate feed corresponding to what the PC3000 card might be able to recieve OTA. Note that sources are normally associated with one or more card inputs.

thx for the encouraging words...

So if I understand you correctly, I can install another input device (my idea was a Plextor PX-M402U) and define it in Myth as a seperate device?

I could then connect the sat stb to the Plextor.

I see that when you setup another input there is provision for Zap2it account entry, so I assume that I would need a 2nd zap2it account fort the sat part of the guide. I don't have a problem with everything showing up in one guide.

I think the tricky part will be programming something to blast the IR to the STB when a channel is selected in the merged guide...

No, you don't need a second zap2it account. You can setup another profile on zap2it and use that profile for your sat box.
