Now i am little confused.

Tv-channels and tv-guides dont fit together somehow. Im using DVB-card if it does matter here.

First in mythtv-setup i configured general options and tv-card and then selected video cards and video sources. In video source i chosen to use tv_grab_fi program to get those program guide things. When i left that video source menu, progress bar freezed to 50%.

Ok! In console was message saying mythtv is retrieving retrieving list of available channels and then asking me to select which channels to add. I chosen channels that are available here. Yes, yes yes, no yes no,no no..... Now i almost remember that sequence :D

After that following text is displayed:

You _MUST_ run 'mythfilldatabase --manual the first time, instead
of just 'mythfilldatabase'. Your grabber does not provide
channel numbers, so you have to set them manually.

Then i connected that previously created video source to input connection in menu number 4.

Sorry! I configured somewhere in settings mythtv to use finnish language, so i dont remember exactly what all these menus and options are in english. Im just translating them back to english, so its possible that im using little different terms, but i guess you still get it.

Anyway, channel search finds all channels. I created transports and gave them frequencies and other settings like QAM and so on.

Then i choosed channel search and full scanning of existing transports. All channels are found what im expecting.

Then i returned to console, where was message saying:

Now, please run 'mythfilldatabase' to populate the database
with channel information.

I used --manual option cause i was told so earlier.

Now i dont remember exactly, what that mythfilldatabase was asking after getting those channel informations, but there first there was:

channel id (positive integer)
I numbered all channels ID:s 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on

Then was channel name, I used what it was offering. For example [MTV3]

To short version (callsign) question i used same name.

To channel number i tried using 1, 2, 3... numbering and numbers what channel search find.

To next 2 questions i just pressed enter. (Fine tuning and pal/secam etc)
Does these have any use if i have DVB-card?

Ok. Finally i configured all channels and tried watching live tv. It works fine. So does recording. But in tv-guide all channels are saying "unknown".

When i go back to mythtv-setup, and channel search, i find all channels duplicated like:

TV1
TV1
TV2
TV2
MTV3
MTV3
Nelonen
Nelonen
.
.
.

I guess that another is channel is founded by channel search and another by running mythfilldatabase.

I tried naming them exactly same in those questions in mythfilldatabase and some other combinations, but result is same.

Something went wrong. I guess its that channel id or number, but what for they are after all. I dont know and couldnt find very good info anywhere.

Actually i dont understand that database thing very well. I think that mysql takes care of that database and information is entered there by running mythfilldatabase. But as you can see, i dont understand that database filling either :?

Could someone explain, please?

Ive been messing with this over week all nights and now i figured it out myself when i finally asked about it in this forum. Maybe i should have asked earlier

All i had to do was adding that xmltv id to every channel in mythtv-setup before running mythfilldatabase --manual. Ive got those id:s in previous tries to get this work.

I did so and in questions what mythfilldatabase asked was everything as defaults. Just pressed enter to all of them and it works now. :D
